Last weekend the lads added another 3 points towards the title push with a confident display against Sunderland City. The lads were dominant throughout and added some much needed goals to our goal difference. Tomorrow we return at home against Ayton Cherry Tree.

Jarrow red hackle 2-3 LOR🟢

If you googled a game of two halves, this would appear. First half the lads decided to not turn up at all- sloppy passes, lacking effort and really not looking like a team who are a title contending team. Second half was the complete opposite, much more fight with lads chasing every ball, more control of the game and really showed the quality that we have.

After finding ourselves 2-0 down at half time from our own wrongdoings, the lads started off the second half on the front foot from the off. The high press paid off with Kieran Stewart winning the ball in the midfield and slotting through Warren Brewster who tucked it into the bottom corner to give us a lifeline. On the 60th minute, the two Kieran’s combined with Quinny playing the ball into midfield to find Kieran Stewart who took the ball forward and played in Michael Leary who finished it beautifully from a tight angle. In the last 10 minutes, the intense pressure paid off and the boys finally took the lead. A brilliant ball through from Quinny to Michael Leary who once again finished it off to win us the game and a massive +3 on the board.

Not our finest performance in the first half, but we take the +3 and move onto our next game on Sunday away to Sunderland City.

LOR 4-3 Houghton

Another terrific result for the lads, who came out on top of a very competitive Houghton side who are also at the top battling it out for promotion.

This was one of our better performances of the recent games, with every single player putting a massive shift in to bring us out on top. From the front to back including all of the subs used every player put 100% effort in and guided us to an important 3 points despite the torrential rain throughout the game. We are an injury ridden team at the moment but we continue to find the performances needed to win our games. Credit to Houghton who gave us another really tough game for the 3rd time this season.💪🏼

Result:

LOR 5-2 Ryhope

Another test for the boys on Sunday, with the lads coming out on top against a strong Ryhope side as we bounced back from our set back.

The lads started off excellent, with an early goal from Anth down the right hand side which found its way into the back of the net. Michael doubled our lead with his high press, winning the ball back and slotting it into the back of the net. Shortly after, Michael Leary added to his tally again by taking it round the keeper and slotting it home. Warren Brewster then took at past two defenders and dinked it into the back post, where Ryan wood was standing to tap it home. The lads stupidly gave away a penalty right before the end of the first half, which Ryhope slotted away.

The second half was a complete different side from Riley’s with the lads stepping off the pace and becoming second best throughout. Ryhope added another on the 60th minute to make things difficult. Despite the struggle, Michael added his third of the game to finish the game off and give the lads an important 3 points towards our title push.

The lads return tonight against Houghton in the league with a massive game in hand at the top.

Result:

LOR 3-3 Philadelphia Wanderers- 4-5 after pens

Tough one to take on Sunday for the lads. The lads took the lead twice in the game but unfortunately couldn’t hold on to see the game through which unfortunately ended on penalties.

The lads took the lead within the first 15 minutes through a penalty from Jacob Allsopp. Michael Leary took the ball down the left hand side and drove into the box and was fouled to win the penalty which Jacob tucked away nicely. 10 minutes later, Michael Leary picked up on a loose ball from Wanderers which was tucked away to double the lead. Just before half time, Wanderers got one back after capitalising on a defensive mistake.

Second half started slowly for the lads and rightly so the Wanderers equalised. The lads took a while to get into the game and on the 70th minute, Michael Leary drove into the box and squared the ball across to Jacob Allsopp who put it into the top corner. Despite some excellent defending from the boys the Wanderers once again equalised on the brink of full time to take us to penalties.

Sadly it wasn’t our day, with the lads losing on penalties. We dug in deep but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to get us across the line. We now focus on the league in our battle for promotion.

Late result (15/03/26): LOR 2-1 Plains Farm

Another win in the bag for the lads who come up victorious against a very good Plains Farm team.

The lads had to really dig in this game and play very compact to contain a second half overload of pressure from Plains Farm. Credit to the team, we stuck in and came out the end with another massive three points which keeps our title contentions within grasp. Goals from Jacob Allsopp in the first and second half ensured a win for the lads.

LOR 4-3 The Albion

On Sunday we gained another massive 3 points towards our season despite one of our worst team performances in a long time.

The lads started off promising and took the lead through a penalty slotted away by Jacob Allsopp. Early in the second half, The Albion capitalised on our own mistakes and took the lead with two quick goals early in the second half. After a slow start, the lads found an equaliser by Josh Thompson, from good work down the right by Warren Brewster. Despite our hard work to fight back into the game, The Albion once again took the lead with some poor work from ourselves leading into an Albion goal. The lads finally woke up and started to play our proper football, and in the 80th minute Jacob Allsopp found Warren Brewster to once again equalise for Rileys. In the 85th minute, the Roker sunset himself stepped up to score the winner with some great build up from the lads which was tucked away by Jacob to guide us to an undeserved victory.

Credit to The Albion who gave us another run for our money, not making life easy for us and becoming our Achilles heal at times. Despite our poor display, it’s another three points in the bag that takes us joint top of the league 💪🏼

A positive performance and result last week from the lads, with a lot to take from the game to lead us in the right direction moving forward with our title charge.

Goals from Michael Leary, Warren Brewster, Jacob Allsopp, Anth Butts and Rhys Turnbull finalised an excellent display from the lads. With some quality bits of play and assists from everyone involved, it topped off a fantastic result for Riley’s.

AFC Houghton 2-3 LOR🟢

What a massive three points on Sunday from the lads which now takes us sat two points off top with a few games in hand.

A steady start seen us ease into the game well and on the 15th minute little Ryan Wood played a ball through the back line to Michael Leary, who took it round the keeper to make it 1-0. Despite our positive start, an unfortunate defensive mishap lead to a Houghton equaliser. The game was back and forth, and on the 35th minute Michael Leary took the ball past the defense and squared the ball into Warren Brewster who tapped it home.

Second half started off sloppy with Riley’s finding themselves on the back foot for the early stages of the second half. Houghton equalised once again with an awkward corner which an awkward deflection gave Houghton a goal to bring us level once again.

Late in the second half a Houghton sin bin and a straight red card changed the game into our favour. On the 85th minute, Michael Leary was slotted through by Jacob Allsopp to take it past a defender and fire it home to make sure we came away with an important three points. An excellent performance from the entire team on Sunday with every effort from each player and sub playing a key part to getting us over the line.

Ryhope 2-5 LOR🟢

After another extensive period off due to the terrible weather, the lads returned on Astro against Ryhope on the league.

First half didn’t go our way, with us struggling to find any rhythm going forward which lead to us being 1-0 down from a brilliant free kick. Not long after the lads equalised, with Kieran Stewart bringing the ball up the pitch from left back and slotting it into Michael Leary who span his defender and firing it home.

In the second half, we took the lead when our ginge Jacob Allsopp lobbed the keeper from 30 yards out into the top corner. Ryhope did bounce back quickly however Michael Leary got the ball and beat several defenders on the right hand side and bundled the ball across the box which found Little Ryan Wood who tucked it home. Minutes later, Michael done the exact same thing on the left hand side, this time squaring it to Warren Brewster who tapped it home. With minutes left, Anth Butts retrieved the ball on the opponents 30 yard line, beat a defender and fired it around a stranded goalkeeper to finish the game off.

Not our finest performances to say the least but we take the momentum into next week against a top of the table clash against Houghton.

Result:

Ayton Cherry Tree 1-2 LOR🟢

After a extensive Christmas break, the lads returned this past Sunday against top of the league Cherry Tree.

First half was an eventful start with the lads starting off on the back foot and under a lot of pressure from the off. However, on the 25th minute Michael Leary and Warren Brewster continued where they left off before the break with a brilliant effort from both to combine for the opening goal to make it 1-0. 10 minutes later the lads conceded a very soft penalty which was saved by the hero in the sticks Bailey Long to keep it 1-0.

Second half started off very similar to the first with the lads on the back foot. On the 55th minute, the lads failed to clear the ball and Cherry Tree capitalised and equalised. On the 70th minute Josh Barnett picked the ball up from centre half and pinged the ball 50 yards to Warren Brewster who brought it down brilliantly and tucked it home to give us the lead once again. The game became scrappy and feisty at times near the end with Ayton going down to 10 but it was the lads that held their nerve in the latter stages to come away with a win.
