Sunderland Shu Toku Kai Judo Club Established: 1965

Family ran Judo Club based in the Sunderland/North East Area. In 1965 our club was founded by Syd Sleeman, Byron Dawson and Bob Young.

The club was affiliated with Shu Toku Kai which was created by Peter Garside 6th Dan. Sensei Garside adopted the principles of Kyu Shin Do Judo when he was a student of Sensei Kenshiro Abbe. When Sensei Garside retired the club was the affiliated with British Judo Council (BJC). The club has changed name and venues of the long years but with permission from Sensei Garside; we changed the name to a more permanent name that honoured our clubs roots. Thus Sunderland Shu Toku Kai name was created. Our now head coach Sensei Dave Revely 5th Dan, now runs the club along with his team of experienced coach's, some of which trained under the founders until they retired. Over the years our club has had many successes in awards, qualifications, area, national, international and world competitions. Such as: National gold, silver and bronze medalist in Kata multiple times and World Masters Champions in Kata multiple times. As well as Kata success we have also had great success in fight. Such as World Master's gold, silver and bronze medals and National gold, silver and bronze medals. We continue to use Kyu Shin Do Judo principles within our club, which has helped many of our students to reach their full potential on and off the mat and we feel this is the root of our success over the years. Here's to many more successful years in Judo

40th Anniversary Celebrations 🍾

Yesterday our club travelled to Watanabe Kai Judo Club in Carlisle to celebrate their 40th year! It was a pleasure to have been invited and to make the trip. Sensei's & Derek showcased a fantastic host of both standing & groundwork techniques from across the the clubs 40yr. Which from the looks on (mostly) everyone's faces, enjoyed 😄.
