What a game! 😅
A superb advert for school football as our Year 7 & 8 girls’ squad competed for a place in next week’s Durham County Cup final trophy 🏆

In an evenly contested start, St Joseph’s broke the deadlock after 10 minutes to take a 1–0 lead.

The girls responded brilliantly, showing fantastic togetherness and working tirelessly for one another. Their efforts were rewarded when Jasmyn’s wonderful pass found Maisie’s perfectly timed run, and she made no mistake in finishing to equalise. Then, on the stroke of half-time, Georgia picked up the ball on the edge of the box, skipped past a defender, and drilled a shot into the bottom corner to complete the turnaround 🎯

The girls picked up where they left off in the second half and extended their lead when Jasmyn once again set up Maisie, who netted her second of the afternoon and our third. Soon after, Jasmyn released Georgia, who battled through a few challenges before calmly slotting home her second goal 🔥

Unfortunately, the final 10 minutes saw St Joseph’s complete a dramatic turnaround to secure their place in next week’s final.

We couldn’t possibly pick a player of the match - every single player gave everything. We are incredibly proud of the girls and their efforts. They are not only a talented group of footballers but also a fantastic group of young people, and we look forward to seeing their continued development 🙌

We are delighted to confirm that we have now received official confirmation of the date and venue for the Final.

This is a historic opportunity for the school as we prepare to compete in a National Final for the very first time in our history. A fantastic achievement for this group of players and something they should all be incredibly proud of.

It has been an action-packed week for our Year 10 squad. The boys kicked things off in the Durham County Cup against High Tunstall where they would compete for a place in the semi-final. In an evenly contested game, the boys played some fantastic football and carved out some wonderful opportunities, though they unfortunately couldn’t find the finish needed on the day, meaning we bow out of the competition at the quarter-final stage 🏆

With a quick turnaround, the boys returned to Sunderland Schools’ League action this evening against Kepier. Showing incredible character to bounce back from their cup exit last week, the boys delivered a dominant performance to secure a convincing victory ✅

Another outstanding performance in the Sunderland Schools League from our talented Year 7 group, making it 8 wins from 8 and moving three points clear at the top of the table. 🔝⚽️

The lads delivered a dominant display against Venerable Bede, scoring some excellent team goals alongside a few brilliant individual moments to secure another well-deserved three points. 💪

With just four games remaining, the boys now sit three points clear in what promises to be an exciting finish to the season. We also look forward to a League Cup semi-final against either St. Aidan’s or Kepier. 🏆

It’s been a busy few weeks for our Year 8 squad, competing in the Durham County Cup and the Sunderland Schools’ League & Cup.
First up was St Joseph’s, where we would challenge for a place in the Durham County Cup final. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be.

Next, we were drawn away to St Aidan’s in the quarter-final of the League Cup. With the score at 3-3, a late flurry from St Aidan’s saw our cup run come to an end.

After two difficult results, the boys showed great character to bounce back with an excellent footballing performance against Seaham, where we saw lots of the ball and played some wonderful stuff.
This was rewarded with a 4-1 lead going into latter stages of the game. Unfortunately, we let a three-goal lead slip meaning the points were shared.
Nevertheless, it’s a performance to build on, with both the Sunderland Schools’ League and the Tyne Coast Trust Cup still to play for.

Saisha – England Schoolgirls Squad

Congratulations to Year 10 student Saisha Snowdon, who has been selected as one of just 16 players to represent the English Schools’ FA U15 Schoolgirls squad 🇬🇧⚽
Saisha will take part in the upcoming international fixture against Wales at Cirencester Town FC on 23rd May.

Everyone at Monkwearmouth Academy is incredibly proud of Saisha. Her dedication, attitude, and commitment both on and off the pitch make her a fantastic role model for younger students.

Congratulations to our Under 13 Girls who have advanced through to the semi-final of the County Cup after a 4️⃣🆚3️⃣ victory over Carmel College this afternoon 🏆

MONKWEARMOUTH ACADEMY YEAR 7 – DURHAM COUNTY CUP FINALISTS 🏆

Our Year 7 side have secured their place in the Durham FA County Cup Final after an impressive and hard-fought performance ⚽️

After going 1–0 down, the lads showed great determination and maturity to take control of the game and turn things around in style. Two excellent finishes from Archie and a brilliant volley from Oscar sealed a well-deserved 3–1 victory 🔥

At the back, Noah was outstanding at centre back, putting in a commanding performance to earn Man of the Match 💪

A fantastic achievement for a talented young squad ⭐

The final now awaits, with Durham Johnston or Emmanuel standing between them and the Compton and Harrison trophy. Which would be a first at that age group in 23 years…a chance for the team to make history 👏

Well done lads – a performance full of character and quality! 💪
