And that was all she wrote. It’s been a pleasure. Onto next season… maybe.

Goalscorers? Who cares? MOTM? Not bothered. Football won this evening. Viva the 43 lads in that Roker WhatsApp. That one was for ya’ll, even though 23 read a roll call for games and only getting 12/13/14 on match days… but it’s what we live for.

RESULT SAT 27th

YAV 0 - 4 Roker

Fired up from last week’s embarrassing exit from the cup, Roker were keen to make sure Yav didn’t get their second win of the season.

Unusual time of kick off at 10am saw Roker take an early lead through Andy Lowes. A fantastic run by Cammy pulling every defender and their dogs with him opened up the door for Lowesy to slot beyond the keeper.

Carelessly we don’t take any more of our chances in the first half with Cammy, Micky, jacob coming close to adding to the advantage.

Kicking off in the second half Yav started quick putting a little bit more pressure on us, stringing 3 passes together.

You can imagine the relief when Cammy finally grabs two quick goals, one through a penalty, we finally get a comfortable lead.

Andy Lowes takes a short corner what gets laid back to him, sees Ryan Siddall darting a run through a crowd of players who gets a neat touch on the end of the cross, putting the game to bed.

Very nearly ALMOST forgot to mention Kye who managed to break free for a through ball all alone when a sniper in the trees takes him out and skids 16 yards on his face. The pitch will recover.Hopefully.

RESULT -
Roker 2 - 3 North Shields

A fiercely contested battle lastnight under the lights of Leyburn Grove. A fairly even first half with both teams coming close, Roker open the scoring through Cammy with a penalty 3 minutes before half time.

Second half kicks off with much of the same as the first before North Shields grab an equaliser. A pivotal moment in the game sees Andy Lowes sinbinned for 10 minutes and Shields take the lead shortly after. After the ten minutes was up, Shields grab another goal after a quick counter attack. With no time to dwell, Roker break with the ball falling to Lowesy who catches the keeper off guard from 82 yards out 🤥 (edge of the box)
With the last kick of the game, a free kick is hung into the area where Kye Atkinson puts it away only for it to be chalked off.

Fair play to North Shields who advance to the Semi Finals of the League cup and we wish them the best of luck but a bittersweet feeling with the performance we put in and the sin bin ultimately being the difference in the end.

Special shout out to the Roker Ultras in the dugout last.

We move onto Saturday.

RESULT
Roker 1 - 5 Saint Charles RC Church Gosforth

An absolute stinker of a morning from the fellas starting with our gaffa turning up for a 1030 ko when today we kicked off a hour earlier🤐

St Charles take an early lead and we respond almost instantly through Cammy. One thing lead to another and we ship another four goals.
Bad morning at the office but we go again Tuesday night under the lights against North Shields in the quarter final of the league cup.

Special mention to Gav for coming out of retirement to sit on the bench for 90 mins.

Roker 4 - 1 Sunderland Samba

Staying in the W column in the reverse fixture of the Wear-Wear Derby

With a pitch inspection complete from the referee who was fully satisfied with the playing surface Roker quickly takes the lead with two quick fire goals from Cammy and Jacob respectively. With total control and confidence we play some lovely football through the lines where Jacob grabs his second.
Half time 3-0
With a slow start to the second half thinking the game is already won, samba win a free kick and very nicely worked to pull a goal back for the travelling team.
In search of the fourth goal to hopefully put the game to bed a long ball is hung up in the air and like it’s under his spell, that man Alex Gudgeon takes one sweet sweet touch before unleashing an absolute thunder bu**er from well outside the area beyond the keepers grasp.

A good win and we won’t mention two of the worst penalties seen in a football game from both sides. Luckily Jacob didn’t fight off 6 of his own men to let him have the penalty for him to pass back to the keeper on his hattrick👀

Result

Hartlepool (Sunderland) Samba 1 - 4 Roker

Back in the W column and the person who does the write ups on the score sheet so we get a write up this week.
The day was set for a Wear-Wear derby so naturally we travelled to Hartlepool for the game.

Samba take an early lead thanks to Captain Gibby forgetting which Sunderland side he was playing for and their lad gracefully strikes beyond the keeper.

Now the good bit imo. With the wind not in Rokers favour in the first half Hollywood passes were far and few between when one sneaks through to no one but Jacob initiating the press forcing the defender to make a mistake dropping to Lowesy who CALMLY takes the ball a few yards before slotting into an empty net. We go in at half time 1-1.
With confidence we come out in the second half inviting Samba to retain some of the ball (false sense of security) then we go on the counter attack twice and grab two goals through Cammy and Micky.
A cry of “these are here for the taking lads” came from the crowd as Jack Ramsden riffed the winner home from 73 yards out much to the crowds dismay.

Great result to come back from 1-0 down.
