It has been really interesting reading Facebook posts about laminitis recently.

Having native ponies we have to be so careful to avoid lami and I genuinely plan my life around it currently. From paddock management to suitable feed choices and stocking hay.

This year the girls are in their starvation paddock with varied enrichment to reduce their access to spring grass. I check their feet daily for heat/pulses. We are very proactive.

Facebook memories shares some old photos of Bee when she was having a particularly bad flare up and it breaks my heart. I am forever devastated that we lost her to such a cruel condition. I was always on the reactive with her and I never want to be in that position again.

Have you had any experience with laminitis? How have you combated it?

Hey mum what did you buy with your birthday and Easter money?

Well India I actually decided that we needed a SealStop LTD in our lives because the anxiety filling buckets gives me is unnecessary. Especially when I am filling the back fields trough while poo picking.

Then I found a website selling my favourite haynets so I grabbed 5 more to equal them out after only buying 3 at NES.

Finally the old man is long overdue his own grooming kit, especially now we have friends helping out nore often. Colour coordination is essential for keeping everything in track and River is the only one without a colour coordinated kit. I have picked the Premier Equine International Ltd one in orange to match Quiz's blue one.

So maybe not the chocolate eggs originally planned but honestly the most practical purchases and I am very excited for them to arrive.

Sometimes life creeps up on us just like Quiz does πŸ˜‚

So I wanted to share the few ad-hoc costs that I have been looking at this month:

Hay. Β£60 a round or Β£8 a bale. Honestly madness but hey ho, it is a necessity. We use it every day for the girl's paddock and we aim to keep their grass intake low to help manage their weight.

A wheelbarrow. Ouch these have gone up in cost. I have found a lovely 2 wheel one that isn't too big or heavy for my hypermobile wrists, but that is another Β£115 to find. I know there are cheaper ones but this one fits all my criteria so it is worth it to me to spend the extra few pounds.

Then there is haynets. When did haynets get so expensive? I am looking for 8-10 so I can prepare them in advance but not at Β£10-15 a net πŸ˜‚ I will just struggle on with my current ones. I know this will make life easier especially in the long run but seriously why are they suddenly so expensive?

Then tiktok shop got me thinking about tools I am missing at the yard and a quick stalk of the Red Gorilla International website later and I seem to want a good Β£120-Β£175 worth of gear (oops!) I think a new shavings fork and a decent brush will take priority mind as I am sick poo picking by hand because I don't get on with the metal shavings fork πŸ‘€

I would like to say that is before you factor in the regular expenses like feed, farrier, livery etc. I am trying to make small improvements each month to avoid any huge bills. I know that I really should stop putting off my Ag+ order and get some EndoSan 8 in to sort the waters out and I am currently looking for a good deal on a water butt to help with rain water management (yes Aldi UK I am looking at you).

So let me know what cost creeps up on you when you least expect it?

What does education look like?

I like to think it can look very varied especially in ponies like China. She is so clever and full of life that we mix up her work to keep her brain ticking.

Some days we walk inhand and practice simple commands and movements. Some days we walk in a headcollar with two ropes like reins and focus on listening to pressure. Some days we long rein. Some days we do poles and some days we go off site around the lanes and hills.

But the end goal is always the same: a calm quiet session

Ground work is the foundation to most of a ponies life and I truely believe it is the most important skill you can give a pony.

What is your favourite groundwork activity?

AD PR Event| It is the night before The National Equine Show 2026!

I am so excited for this year's line up. There are some fantastic brands, speakers covering a HUGE range of topics and a fabulous range of demos.

I am particularly looking forward to the Smart Grooming demos and visiting the therapy ponies.

As always I am there both days so if you spot me please come and say hi. I can not wait to be back πŸ’šπŸ©·

I am so excited to be heading back to the National Equine Show 2026 so I think it is time to reshape my 2025 haul πŸ‘€

The show is a personal favourite of mine and the brands that attend change every year with a few fantastic consistent faces. Last year I went a little overboard but the haul speaks for itself, I am over the moon with items and I use them regularly.

What is your favourite item mentioned πŸ‘€

Just a few months late. It's a long one so grab a cuppa, but wow it was a great show!A huge thank you to all the brands at The National Equine Show and their...

2016 throwback

I wanted to hop on this trend and share some photos from 10 years ago. It was a crazy year as I broke my pelvis December 26th 2015 so I was in bits.

Later on that year I put Taz up for sale and spent months wondering if I was making the right choice. Looking back it was 100% the right call as we we're no longer the right fit for each other (I was getting tall and he wasn't, he wanted to jump, I wanted to do dressage).

Also featuring in my 2016 throwback is the wonderful Belle and Princess from Wirral Riding Centre and my sweet boy Charlie aka Beatski Boy πŸ’™

I'd love to see your throwback photos in the comments

I have forgotten to schedule the next few days of so let's have a catch up

Day 2 is about my equestrian journey which starts back when I was small. I don't particularly remember the early days, but I started taking regular lessons at Wirral Riding Centre in 2011 which evolved into Pony Club and Dressage competitions and so many amazing memories. Special mentions to Miley, Slinky, Belle, Morgan, Poppy, Dusty, Dandy, Meg, Little Murph and Princess who gave me so many amazing opportunities while I was there.

Christmas 2011 I got my first pony Taz who was a lovely lottle coloured cob. I will do a whole post on Taz at some point as he has a very long story with lots of "lore" πŸ˜‚

Then I had the opportunity to ride some incredible horses effectively on a part loan. I got to compete Mickey in dressage one time at Bold Heath which is one of my favourite memories.

We added Charlie to the family in 2016/2017 and he was such a gentle giant. He taught me a lot about patiences and natural horsemanship. We sold him January 201i and he stayed with that family until he died suddenly in 2024. He is greatly missed. Beatski Boy 2004-2024 ❀️

I bought Bee as a field companion for River in 2019 and she was a feral Welsh Section A. Her registered name was Oldforge Bangle and I had her until she passed away in 2023 from complications with her laminitis. I can not put into words how much I miss her, but my Indi is so much like her and I like to think Bee is watching over us.

When I went to uni I rode with the equestrian club. I did 4 years with Team Sunderland at University of Sunderland and made so many amazing friends. I am so grateful for them and the support they give me, we have such an amazing community. I miss the opportunities which came up and the horses with honourable mentions going to Zeb, Ollie, Jack, Oz and Chase.
