Tudor Archers

Tudor Archers We are a well established archery club based in Sudbury Sports Centre, Tudor Road, Sudbury

Haven't posted for a while as the club has been ticking over OK.
With the rebuild of the school starting it does create a bit of uncertainty as we know that if emergency classrooms are needed we could lose the hall for a bit.
Once the new sports hall is built we will have to go into discussions as to equipment storage and net hanging points in walls etc, plus may need to extend the nets, as believe new hall wider.
With all this uncertainty, it has been decided we will NOT be doing any Taster Sessions or Beginners Courses for the foreseeable future ( at least 2025 and 2026 ).
This will give the club time to consolidate and concentrate on its present members.

Well we survived The Hadleigh Show for another year - cool in the morning and burning hot in the afternoon.
Although the show seemed busy our visitors were well down on recent years, although the bar and food area next door were doing a roaring trade.
Last year the position of the new food area did help us, but the large bar marquee, this year, practically made us invisible and diverted people around our entrance.
We'll have to work on signage, if we are at the show again next year.
We must be grateful for what we did take as it is a large effort for those members that attended and does help keep membership fees as low as possible.
On the bright side we did give out details to several people who think they would like a full taster session in the future.

Just a quick heads up for any of our followers who look for us at The Hadleigh Show - this year they have had to move the bar marquee to the flat area, that used to be our entrance way - to get to us you will have to go behind the bar and find a newly made pathway. We will have our flags and signs to guide you.
This means we will be surrounded by the food area and the bar, so no excuse not to come and have a go, as we have everything you need in close proximity.

Last night was the start of our "summer" shooting - we have to move outside for about 10 weeks while exams are on at the school.
Beautiful evening for it and a good turn out from the club.
Thanks to Wayne for the pictures

As we are now in May our thoughts turn to The Hadleigh Show - we will be in our usual position, on the hill at the back near the cattle area.
If you ever fancied having a go at archery do come along but remember to purchase your tickets for the show beforehand ( they don't sell at the gate, and have cash available, as we don't take card payments ( doing only one event per year it's just not a viable option to us ).
Saturday 17th May is the date, hopefully the good weather will last until then.
The show always falls in the period ArcheryGB call "Start Archery Week " but we don't make our Have a Go at the show part of this, as you have to pay to get into the show as well as our own charges - £5 for 8 arrows - but if you are at the show do pay us a visit for a chat, even if you don't wish to have a go.

Haven't posted for a while as club has been doing it's weekly shoots and just shooting as normal.
As the summer approaches we always have to change our plans for several weeks as the school uses the hall for exams, and we can't really shoot over the tables that are set out.
The last two weeks were the first to be affected so the committee decided to hold a social event on one of the Wednesday nights to keep members minds sharp for the coming season.
A quiz was arranged for 30th April and was duly held at The Bull in Long Melford.
An "interesting" night with puzzled faces, much laughter and about a 50% ratio of correct answers overall.
Our thanks to Nick for being question master, and supplying the questions, and to those that made all the arrangements - a great night out for all concerned.

The end of another year for Tudor, and last Wednesday saw the final shoot of the year, our Christmas Fun Shoot.
Great turnout as most members made it for this shoot, and I didn't realise that we had so many artists in the club.
So it's Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all members and friends - will leave you with some pictures from Wednesday ( you'll see which members like to pose for the camera)

Something different last night - No not your typical Halloween shoot but just fun targets at different distances, with unknown random scores as two winners.
The last target on the right was one arrow only and the yellow centre scored 100 points ( three archers managed to hit it ).
Fun had by all, especially trying to sort the rules out and various friendly arguments on the scoring.
Our thanks to Wayne, our Field Captain, for the work and hours he must have spent organising it all.

Last night we shot the longest round possible in our hall - a Stafford - 6 doz arrows at 30 metres - only just enough room to cope, and it does look a long distance from the shooting line.
Think it was enjoyed by all archers, but is tiring at 6 arrows an end.

Last night was the clubs Portsmouth Handicap Shoot, with shields for both highest score and best handicap performance.
A humid night in the hall, with many archers away on holiday, but still a good turnout.
Congratulations to Karen Brewster, who ran away with both trophies, shooting the highest score of the night.
