Event #196 - 14 June 2026
Stowmarket Recreation Ground Junior Parkrun
Wow! It was an amazing morning on the Rec today with over 90 youngsters between the ages of 4 - 14 turning up to run the 2km course. The weather was just perfect with some sunshine and a cool breeze and excitement was high: the Stowmarket Striders Junior Division were staging a takeover and they brought the crowds with them. Thank you Hayley for suggesting it and putting in the hours to make it happen. The cakes were very welcome too! We had 93 finishers and an AMAZING 34 volunteers! The Rec was also teeming with supporters, cheering on all the runners.
There were some notable achievements this morning. Reuben was the first into the finish funnel with a time of 7:56 and Lexi was the first female with a time of 8:42 (a new PB). Well done to you both! Jack, Florence, Jensen, Raphael, Huckleberry, Freya, Ted, Charlie, Austin, Parker, Dusty, Matilda, Thomas, Oakley, Hannie, Amber, Liliana, Rose, Rory Jac, Mia-Rose, Teagan, Thea, Jack, Freya, Alice, Winston, Angus, Tommy, Stanley, Colby, Elsie, Arabella, Logan, Elsie and Betty-Jade all also ran personal bests. Congratulations all!
There were 4 first timers: Tony, Isabella, Joshua and Charlie who began their parkrun adventure this morning. We hope you enjoyed the experience and will come back often. We were also able to award some wristbands: Ted ad Zosia earnt their Half Marathon wristbands and Jimmy was presented with his Ultra Marathon wristband. Don't forget to print out your certificate from the parkrun website....
One of our volunteers also achieved a milestone this morning - we were able to recognise Tom, who not only shows up in Stowmarket or Bury St Edmunds but also puts in much effort behind the scenes ensuring that wristbands are correctly awarded for both events. 300 volunteer credits is an awesome achievement! Thank you Tom!
As always, we would like to give a shout-out to the volunteers in the Cafe on the Rec who provide icy poles, beverages and cake to our runners and supporters. They do not charge for any of the refreshments as they rely on donations. If you are able, please consider supporting them as your children definitely appreciate the treats!
We wish you a fabulous week. Enjoy the sunshine and we'll look forward to seeing everyone back again next Sunday!
