Event #196 - 14 June 2026
Stowmarket Recreation Ground Junior Parkrun

Wow! It was an amazing morning on the Rec today with over 90 youngsters between the ages of 4 - 14 turning up to run the 2km course. The weather was just perfect with some sunshine and a cool breeze and excitement was high: the Stowmarket Striders Junior Division were staging a takeover and they brought the crowds with them. Thank you Hayley for suggesting it and putting in the hours to make it happen. The cakes were very welcome too! We had 93 finishers and an AMAZING 34 volunteers! The Rec was also teeming with supporters, cheering on all the runners.

There were some notable achievements this morning. Reuben was the first into the finish funnel with a time of 7:56 and Lexi was the first female with a time of 8:42 (a new PB). Well done to you both! Jack, Florence, Jensen, Raphael, Huckleberry, Freya, Ted, Charlie, Austin, Parker, Dusty, Matilda, Thomas, Oakley, Hannie, Amber, Liliana, Rose, Rory Jac, Mia-Rose, Teagan, Thea, Jack, Freya, Alice, Winston, Angus, Tommy, Stanley, Colby, Elsie, Arabella, Logan, Elsie and Betty-Jade all also ran personal bests. Congratulations all!

There were 4 first timers: Tony, Isabella, Joshua and Charlie who began their parkrun adventure this morning. We hope you enjoyed the experience and will come back often. We were also able to award some wristbands: Ted ad Zosia earnt their Half Marathon wristbands and Jimmy was presented with his Ultra Marathon wristband. Don't forget to print out your certificate from the parkrun website....
One of our volunteers also achieved a milestone this morning - we were able to recognise Tom, who not only shows up in Stowmarket or Bury St Edmunds but also puts in much effort behind the scenes ensuring that wristbands are correctly awarded for both events. 300 volunteer credits is an awesome achievement! Thank you Tom!

As always, we would like to give a shout-out to the volunteers in the Cafe on the Rec who provide icy poles, beverages and cake to our runners and supporters. They do not charge for any of the refreshments as they rely on donations. If you are able, please consider supporting them as your children definitely appreciate the treats!

We wish you a fabulous week. Enjoy the sunshine and we'll look forward to seeing everyone back again next Sunday!

Polite reminder re: Cafe on the rec

Please can we remind everyone in our junior parkrun community that the Cafe on the Rec kindly offers free refreshments for us each week.
The Cafe is open specifically for JPR on a volunteer basis, and does not trade on a Sunday. This is why your refreshments are free and they only ask for a voluntary donation.

Over the last few weeks, as JPR has been so well supported by more and more runners, some of these refreshments have run out. However, unfortunately some people are making their frustrations known to the volunteers in the cafe.

Please remember - this is free!
Please remember - these are volunteers who have continuously supported our event for over 4 years.

We are so fortunate to have this provision– which many other events would love to have! We would hate to see this partnership change as a result of losing the cafe volunteers.

Thanks all.

Wow, what a morning! It was super hot, but the shade made it just right for all our brilliant runners. Welcome to the 193rd junior parkrun run report.

First of all, everyone at Stowmarket Recreation Ground junior parkrun wants to give a HUGE welcome to the Combs Ford Primary School running club. We spotted some familiar faces and lots of brand‑new ones too. We hope you all had an awesome time running with us.

We almost reached 100 runners again — we had 98 amazing young people taking part today. Even though the sun was blazing, everyone still crossed the finish line with big smiles… probably because they knew a freezing cold ice pole was waiting for them at the end.

A massive thank you to all our wonderful volunteers. You’re the reason this event can happen every week, and we’re so grateful for your cheering, clapping, high‑fiving and helping.

A big shout‑out as well to Emma, who led a brilliant warm‑up this morning. She got everyone jumping, stretching and ready to run. If any of our juniors would like to have a go at leading the warm‑up or even helping with the pre‑run briefing, just let us know. We love seeing young people step up, give it a try, and we always cheer you on.

And of course, thank you to Café‑on‑the‑Rec for keeping everyone refreshed and happy. Your treats and drinks are always a hit.

Next week, Bourney will be your Run Director, so get ready for more fun. We hope to see you there!

Welcome to our our 192nd run report. Which just so happens to be our 04 year old birthday. Congratulations to those old and new to the Stow event, it has gone by so quickly and we have loved every minute of it.

We had 101 participants today, couple with parents / grown ups / carers etc. It looked like the carnival had started early.

We hope you enjoyed it as much as us and we look forward to seeing you next week.

Please can we remind everyone that parkrun is a run, not a race. If there are faster runners trying to pass your child (or you, if you're running with them), please be courteous and let them by, they are not going to harm your child's time, they are just trying to do their very best, as is your child. We want to continue our fun, welcoming environment for everyone 😊
