Sturry Kings FC U10s Shine at Gillingham FC Foundation Community Cup.

Sturry Kings Under 10s had the fantastic opportunity to take part in the Gillingham Football Club Foundation Community Cup 2025 on Saturday.

The team travelled in style, taking a minibus kindly hired from Hersden Community Centre, and arrived at the ground to be greeted by glorious sunshine. It was a challenging start to the tournament, but the boys showed great determination and team spirit, progressing through the group stages into the semi-finals of the Plate competition.

After a hard-fought and closely contested semi-final, the Kings secured their spot in the final. Despite a strong performance and battling until the end, they narrowly missed out on taking home the trophy.

We couldn’t be prouder of the boys — their progress this season has been incredible. This experience was a true testament to their hard work, and we’re excited to see what next season holds!

Vets Match Report

The SK Vets took to the pitch for their second game today, battling both a strong opponent and the heat. It took a little time to find their rhythm, but once settled, they produced some excellent football.

Despite going 2-0 down early on, the team showed impressive character, teamwork, and determination to claw their way back to 2-1. The momentum was building, but a few questionable refereeing decisions added to the drama making the score 3-1, the match eventually ended 3-3 — a result that was the least the lads deserved after a spirited performance.

Plenty of positives to take forward as the squad continues to gel and grow stronger with each game.

It is unacceptable that Canterbury City FC, a vital part of our local community, does not have a permanent home ground. This lack of a dedicated venue not only undermines the club’s ability to thrive, but also deprives local residents of a much-needed space to support and engage in sports. Canterbury City Council and KCC need to step up and ensure that our football club has a home ground within the city. Instead of prioritizing the construction of more houses, we need to focus on preserving and creating green spaces for the community to enjoy. These spaces are essential for sports, recreation, and getting people outdoors, contributing to the health and well-being of our residents. It’s time for the local authorities to take action and invest in a future that supports both our local football club and the wider community.
