Who Am I?
I am Sarah Davenport, based in Staffordshire with a herd of 12 (subject to frequent increase!) Arabian & Iberian horses (Lusitano, PRE's, Spanish Fusion). Currently trying to make ends meet as a so called “Professional” in the equestrian world in all manner of ways, but these days mainly as a bit and bridle fitter, if you want to know more about how I ended up doing what I am doing now, then grab a coffee (or something stronger!) and check out my website page here https://www.equimotion.co.uk/about-us
The focus with my own horses nowadays is listening to them, and I mean, like really listening to them! I have been the one horse owner, on a DIY yard with a full time corporate job, competing every weekend for my own pleasure, schooling through “problems”, when really my horse was refusing jumps because he was shouting at me how much his hocks hurt and I thought he was just being naughty on that particular day to annoy me, or, “riding him through it”, when he spooked at the oncoming bus, because he was genuinely scared and emotionally struggling from all of the other triggering situations that I was totally oblivious to on that ride. I now realise that it was nothing to do with the bus, that was just the trigger that tipped him over the edge of being “OK” that day, on that ride. I have trained arabian racehorses to go as fast as they can, I have “broken in” youngsters completely in 6 weeks …….. needless to say the last few years been a steep learning curve for me, in so many ways.
Please know that I totally do not profess to know anything more, than how I can try to help each of my horses (and hopefully my client’s horses) on a daily basis live a painfree, natural life (well as natural as possible whilst being domesticated) and when, and only if they are ready enjoy a ridden life as an equal partnership with me. It doesn’t make me right, it doesn’t make you wrong.
This page offers you an account of each of my horses and their own individual stories, my own injuries over the years (which have been quite extensive!) the highs and lows of horse ownership in the current world and maybe, just maybe, how one day I will get back to competitive riding, but in an ethical way, and as a “listening” equal with the horse, because after all …..there’s always next year!
Please like, follow, share this page, or whatever it is you need to do to help me try and get the message out, about "listening" to your horse, like, REALLY listening.
