Big things have been happening behind the scenes at Stroud Judo 👀

We’ve been a little quiet on here lately, but for good reason. We’ve been working hard getting everything ready for the next chapter of the club, both on and off the mat. And this is just the start.

We’re proud to reveal our brand new club kit 🔥🥋
T-shirts, shorts, hoodies and joggers all ready to go.

A huge thank you to Powell & Co Construction Ltd for sponsoring this. Support like this helps us continue to grow the club and create more opportunities for our members.

The new kit is already being put to good use at competitions and training, and we think it looks 👌

There’s plenty more to come over the next few weeks, including a brand new website on the way. Stay tuned.

How long does it take to become a 1st Dan (black belt)?

This can vary from club to club. Ben achieved his black belt in one day but it’s the 15 years of hard work and commitment that earned him the grade.

Ben started Judo at Stroud when he was 6 years old. Last Sunday, now aged 21, he traveled to Cardiff Sofia Gardens to compete for his 1st Dan.

Winning 5 matches in one day is the most prestigious way of earning your 1st Dan. Ben began by winning his first 2 matches in order to qualify for a line up. Then he had to win the next 3 consecutive matches. All matches were won by throwing his opponents with ippon.

Congratulations to Dan Barton for putting on a great performance at the 2021 British Judo Championship held in EIS Sheffield at the weekend. Dan won a well-earned silver medal in the pre-cadet boys under 66kg.

Congratulations Harry for winning a Bronze Medal🥉 in the Senior European Open in Sarajevo Bosnia 🇧🇦

Harry's next competitions are the Baku Grand Slam on 5th-7th November in Azerbaijan 🇦🇿 and the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam on 26th-28th November in the United Arab Emirates 🇦🇪

Covid restrictions have now ended at the club and from Thursday 22nd July all sessions will return to normal 🙌

🥋There are no restrictions to the number of players on the mat.
🥋Both Seniors and Juniors can now attend.
🥋Session times will return to pre-covid timings.
🥋You may attend multiple sessions per day.
🥋Spectators are welcome, but please respect people's decisions to socially distance and wear face masks if they wish.

We look forward to seeing the whole club back on Thursday and Saturday!

We're racing back to the club tonight! 🥋

At present, places are limited to 15 players at a time so you will need to book a slot with Bruce prior to the class.

In order for us to maintain social distancing, juniors should arrive already dressed in their Judo Gi and bring a bottle of water.
