“I lift weights at the gym… but I don’t really know what I’m doing.”
Something I hear from new clients all the time.

What weight should I use? How many reps? When should I increase it? Am I actually challenging myself enough?

You don’t necessarily need to train more sometimes you just need to know how to make the training you’re already doing work for you.

If this sounds familiar, come and train with me and let me teach you what you need to know.

A workout doesn’t need to leave you completely exhausted to be effective.
Sweating more, aching for days or barely being able to walk out of the gym isn’t necessarily a sign that you’ve had a “better” workout.

What matters is that your training has a purpose.

Are you challenging your muscles? Are you progressing over time? Are you moving well? Are you recovering enough to train consistently?

Some sessions will feel hard. Some will absolutely push you. But the goal isn’t to destroy yourself every time you train.
Effective doesn’t have to mean exhausted.

And if you’re not sure what effective training actually looks like for you, that’s where I come in. I’ll make sure your sessions have purpose, keep you progressing and give you the accountability to keep showing up.

If you’d like to train with me, drop me a message and we can have a chat.

You don’t need a gym to challenge your lower body. One resistance band and a little creativity can go a long way.

Each of these exercises has multiple progressions, so whether you’re just starting out or looking for more of a challenge, you can adapt the movement to suit your current strength and ability.

Progress doesn’t always come from lifting heavier weights. You can also make an exercise more demanding by:
• Slowing the tempo to increase time under tension.
• Increasing your range of motion.
• Reducing your base of support to challenge balance and stability.
• Adding resistance with a band.
• Improving your technique and control before progressing further.

These are all forms of progressive overload—gradually asking your muscles to do a little more over time so they continue to adapt and get stronger.

So if you’re away on holiday, don’t worry about having the perfect gym or weights. A resistance band, a few well-chosen exercises, and the right progressions are more than enough to keep you challenging your body.

Save this for your next trip so you’ve always got a lower body workout ready to go.

Which progression would challenge you the most? 👇

One of the things I love about Reformer Pilates is how much it makes you pay attention to the way you move.
The springs add resistance, but the reformer also gives you so much feedback. You start to notice your alignment, your control and where you might be compensating without even realising it.
It’s one of those forms of movement where the smallest adjustments can completely change how an exercise feels.
I teach Reformer Pilates at Core & Co in Nailsworth - have a look at the timetable and come and train with me!
