Thank you to everyone who rode with us over the weekend. As a club we took a lot of abuse on Sunday and in the interest of transparency we thought we'd put a little post together...
As a club of just 4, voluntary, "working members" (7 license holders in total) it's always a huge ask to organise and run these events. Following the amount of moaning and verbal abuse we received this weekend, that may be the last club motocross event that you see from us.
You may or may not be aware but the 3 guys who run PCMX Tracks are (and have been for many years now) club officials of Uley MXC. The work they do for our events is completely voluntary and unpaid and without them, the club would have folded back in 2019. We're not just talking about the machine work here either, we mean the booking of toilets, caterers, bar, medics and marshals. The setting up of the pits, start gate, posts, rope and barriers. The liason with local authority around 2 day events. Just this last week, after they'd finished work for the day (yes they all have full time jobs as well) they were driving to and from Nympsfield, not leaving until gone 10pm every day putting in the graft to try and give you all a day or two out on your bikes. Friday they actually took unpaid leave from their jobs, to be at the track and get it ready for the weekend. For what? A Sunday full of nothing but riders of the "toughest sport in the world" moaning about how Nympsfield of all places, in the middle of an unprecedented dry summer, was dry and hard.
So those of you who are insisting on slating PCMX Tracks just know that it isn't as if they're pocketing anything for this weekend, they were out there working all week with what they could to give you a chance to ride your bike. Time that they could easily spend at home with their young children and families instead. It is not their fault that it has barely rained in 3 months and it is not their fault that we as a voluntarily ran club do not have the funds to purchase and have water delivered.

Ironically, on the dryer and hotter of the 2 days, Saturday's Motoduro day was really well received by the riders that attended and we owe a big thank you to the guys from Mercian Dirt Riders who chipped in and helped the day run smoothly. Numbers were steady and the super enduro track was something new that was thouroughly enjoyed. We've had a lot of good feedback about Saturday and will definitely be looking to run another day like this, probably in November.
As for Sunday, did we miss the point in time that motocross bikes became unable to ride varying terrains and weather?
We are not a business. We are a motocross club run entirely on a voluntary basis. Our club event in 2024 turned a profit of a mighty £30. This weekend will see a 4 figure loss. It won't see the end of the club but it may well see the end of our attempts to run club motocross events and there will be nobody to blame except the riders who won't get their hands dirty and volunteer themselves, but will insist that they know better. A familiar scene across the sport that many feel is on its knees, no?
Just because you dont like / can't ride particular conditions, it doesn't mean that others won't. Similarly to a wet meeting, its not to everyone's liking but it doesn't mean that it's wrong to go racing. Different riders thrive in different conditions.
Those of you that raced Sunday and enjoyed a long 15 minute practice and 3 races, being finished by 2, thank you for your support, you're the real ones who clearly understand that this sport is supposed to be tough, it's supposed to be technical and it's supposed to challenge you. If you're not very good at, or scared to ride particular conditions that's fine, but it isn't the fault of the handful of volunteers who have spent hours away from their families and worked tirelessly to give you a track to get out on.
We didn't see a red flag yesterday and the medical team didn't deal with a single incident on the track.
The UK produces a serious lack of talent on the world stage now and maybe this is a prime example of why. You can't ride the same cookie cutter conditions week in, week out and expect to be a well rounded rider.
