I am beyond excited (and a little bit emotional!) to share that Sandfield Health and Wellbeing has been shortlisted for Functional Medicine and Longevity Clinic of the Year! 🏆

This nomination means the world to me. In this studio, we talk so much about the journey of health—the highs, the lows, and the importance of showing up for ourselves. To have our work recognised on this level is a testament to the incredible community we’ve built together. I wouldn’t be here without your constant support, trust, and shared passion for wellbeing.

To celebrate and keep learning, I’ll be heading to the conference next week, which means no classes on Thursday and Friday.

In my last post, I talked about the interdisciplinary clinical foundation of Sandfield Health and Wellbeing.

But if you’ve spent any time on our website or on here you’ll see one word appearing more than any other: Menopause. 🌀

​People often ask me: "Emma, you’re a 'young' Sports Therapist and S&C coach. Why is your primary focus the menopause space?"

​The answer is simple: Because for too long, women in this space have been left far too long trying to figure out their new bodies.

​I’m passionate about this because I see a massive gap. On one side, you have the medical community providing essential care. On the other, the fitness world telling women to "just eat less and do more cardio."
​Neither side is telling the whole story.

​I’ve dedicated my research to things like glucose variability and HRV-driven recovery because during perimenopause and menopause, your biology changes the rules. You aren’t "failing" at your fitness; your old system is simply no longer compatible with your new chemistry.

​My passion isn't just about "fitness." It’s about:

✅ Ensuring you don't lose the muscle mass that is your primary engine for longevity.
✅ Giving you data-backed tools to calm a nervous system that feels like it’s constantly on "high alert."
✅ Using science to help you feel like the strongest, most capable version of yourself again.

It’s been a while since I’ve been active on this grid, but for a very good reason: I’ve been deep in the “behind-the-scenes” work of refining what Sandfield Health and Wellbeing represents. 👋

​For those of you who are new here, or those who haven’t seen me in your feed for a bit, I’m Emma (Emz) founder of Sandfield Health and Wellbeing.

​I am a BSc (Hons) Sports Therapist and Strength & Conditioning coach, but more than that, I am a firm believer that health support should be a clinical science, not a guessing game.

​What is Sandfield Health and Wellbeing?

​We aren't a high-volume fitness brand. We are a specialised practice focused on the intersection of human physiology, metabolic health, and physical resilience.

​Over the last few months, I’ve been busy:

🔬 Finalising research into glucose variability and its impact on hormonal health.
🤝 Strengthening our interdisciplinary team of Sports Therapists, Chiropractors, and Physiologists.
📈 Refining our data-driven protocols to ensure every client we work with is training for longevity, not just a temporary fix.

​Our Philosophy:

​At Sandfield, we don't work in a vacuum. We use objective metrics—like Heart Rate Variability (HRV) and metabolic data—to understand exactly what is happening under the surface. This allows us to create protocols that respect your body’s current state while building the strength you need for the future.

​Whether you’re recovering from injury, navigating a significant life transition, or looking to optimise your health for the long term, our goal is to provide a standard of care that is precise, evidence-based, and entirely bespoke to your biology.

The Day I Found My Purpose Again.

Nine months ago, Marie walked into my life. She was hurting, both physically and emotionally, after years of pain and disappointment from multiple services.

When I left the ambulance service, I missed that feeling of truly making a difference and thought I would never find that level of job satisfaction again. Then Marie gave it back to me.

Our time together has been more than just physical therapy; it was a partnership. We learned to walk again, often utilising a highly specialised technique known as the "Ministry of Funny Walks." 😉 We laughed until our sides hurt, stretching our bodies and our spirits.

Last night, all that work paid off. Marie—the woman who could barely walk 10m—flew! Bristol shine walk, Marie crossed the 10k finish line smiling - an idea 9 months ago that seemed impossible. (And the best bit we got to surprise Marie and be with her the whole way)!!!!!

Her true determination and grit are simply breathtaking. Thank you, Marie, for showing me (and the world) that we can all find a way to fly again.

My purpose is to help you take your life back, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. When they say "find a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life" they truly mean it!!

Yes I had to hold back the tears and yes they flow as I write this but I am so honoured to have been part of this journey ❤️

Did you know that 65% of regular runners sustain an injury each year? 🤯

It's a shocking number, but it highlights a common problem in the running community: we often focus on the miles without paying enough attention to our body's mechanics.

The reasons for this high injury rate are often rooted in poor biomechanics, muscle imbalances, and inadequate recovery. We push our bodies to the limit without the foundational strength to support that demand.

We recently attended a CPD day that delved into the nitty-gritty of running biomechanics and how to prevent these injuries. It was a game-changer! We learned how small tweaks in foot strike, posture, and cadence can make a huge difference, not just in performance, but in keeping you on the road and out of the physio's office.

The biggest takeaway? Strength training is NON-NEGOTIABLE for runners. It's the secret weapon that builds resilience, corrects imbalances, and fortifies your body against the repetitive stress of running.
