A thoroughly wonderful Enrichment Day with so much creative and individual response to our theme. Starting with the myth - The Great Council of Nature, play evolved into projectiles, containers, bubble blowers, fire-lighting, sensory potions with herbs.

Our weekly session will be an opportunity for parents and their little ones to connect with others in and with nature. Drawing on the Forest School ethos, the session will start with a gentle circle in basecamp followed by play opportunities afforded by the site – the stream, the wood and the meadow.

We will be led by nature and the seasons! Each week we will explore a simple theme through a guided activity. There will be the opportunity to tinker in the tool area and several play stations set up.

Beautiful, wonderful nettles!

Such a lovely time today and last week, exploring this often misunderstood plant! Great conversations about 'w**ds' and what they are. Is a nettle a w**d?!
Checking the undersides for butterfly eggs, considering how many invertebrates stinging nettles support and experimenting with our own remedies for stings in play (and finding that nettle juice itself soothes!), how clever the plant is to protect itself this way - despite the ouch of stings!

Some Y1's made their own nettle cordage today and marvelled at its strength! And of course we have been sampling the delicacy of nettle crisps made on the fire. 🔥🌧️🌤️

Gratitude also for the rain and delight in the birdsong when it had passed!

The children have been making their own 'chisels' from sharpened sticks to mark make on soft willow bark. Naturally we are curious about the next step - working with 'real' tools. So we had some fun with some proper old fashioned woodworking kit!
