A super community forest school session: WILD PLAY for the children of Brimscombe & Thrupp, kindly fully funded by Brimscombe and Thrupp Parish Council yesterday!

Late summer and the fruits of the hedgerows and orchard; marking the festival of Lughnasa and harvest, whittling mushrooms, bone hunting, bows and arrows, felted finger puppets, dens and games!!

Tree Tots is back for the Autumn term!

Children aged 18m - 4y warmly invited to join us in the woods, with their adults, on a Monday, starting 7th September.

Our weekly session will be an opportunity for parents and their little ones to connect with others in and with nature at the lovely Rodborough Scout Activity site and Nature Reserve.

Drawing on the Forest school ethos, the session will start with a gentle circle in basecamp followed by play opportunities afforded by the site – the stream, the wood and the meadow.

We will be led by nature and the seasons! Each week we will explore a simple theme through a guided activity and play. There will be the opportunity to tinker in the tool area and several play stations set up. Activities are offerings only with no pressure to take part.
Tree Tots is suitable for families with toddlers and preschoolers from 18 months to 4 years. They should be confident walkers as the site is on a slope.

Sessions take place at Rodborough Scout Activity site and Nature Reserve.

The summer is not over yet but we have come to the end of our Wild Play sessions at Rodborough for this holidays. We, the team, feel heavy hearted after the final day is done - it really is that special. It's been buzzy and beautiful, creative, imaginative and super fun. Thank you everyone who came - bringing your unique selves 🦋👣🐛🦗🪳

Listening in - to bird song and chatter, learning some characteristic behaviours of our avian friends - the nuthatch, swallow and woodpeckers... some really lovely feather finds, diggin clay and modelling with Steff willow weaving with Angela alongside lot's of free play and choice under the blue grey sky today!!

A GORGEOUS Tree Tots Family session with parents and grandparents and older siblings this morning!

How lovely to meet with familiar faces and new under the trees.

Our favourite things were 'poking the mud with a stick', finding mushrooms, everything, using tools and making new friends.

A truly lovely day with the WILD PLAY team at Yew Tree Farm, Thrupp last week, facilitating a session for local children and families, fully funded by

The day evolved from listening in to the wood, noticing our surroundings, bug hunting, playful building of spaces - some seriously decent knots and shelters - natural art, whittling and tool work.

Camouflaging last week was so much fun - it led play into new places and exploring deimetic displays, making huge wings, blackberry disguise

I love how evident and inherent nature relationship is for so many children. It's exciting!
We haven't had a fire for a while and we miss it but the children have really have adapted and flexed and understood why. Creativity, openess and out of the box thinking are a speciality in this age group. So much wonderful experimenting with natural materials and taking it a step further: grass cordage, weaving to create shelters, building up and extending existing structures, slowing down and noticing in new shady places...
