My stats for this year: significantly less Moon jellies, about the same number of Lion's manes (but less in Loch Sunart), more Barrels on the open sea, about the same number of Compass (but not as flambouyant as previous seasons) and my first Blue jellies - twice off Ardtoe.

WORLD JELLYFISH DAY...

I've always wondered why the celebrate this out of jellyfish season (in the UK). Perhaps the Southern hemisphere need to watch out as its the start of their season?

Thankfully, we don't have (m)any really dangerous ones in Scotland. A few will hurt (some a lot) but unlikely to kill unless triggering a heart attack (or another serious condition).

I discovered my new favourite jelly this season - the Blue jellyfish. No prizes for working out which photo that is.

Do you like jellyfish? Or would you rather meet Trick or Treaters (guisers) in a drak alleyway?

👍Thumbs up for like. Or 😍heart of you REALLY like.
Leave a 'sad' 😢 emoji if you don't find them beautiful.

We’ll not be having any of this rain stuff this week, thank you!

This one’s for all those who think I only go out in the nice weather… It’s only high winds or lightning that stop us.

Rather different to this time last week!

I think everyone has electricity now, but Glenborrodale area are on a temporary generator.

Not only is there a sea monster in Loch Sunart (don’t laugh, I’ve seen it), but there’s also a Giant otter!

It’s a female and about 1.5m long…

If you've been on a kayak adventure with me, I may well have mentioned Killer whales / Orca and how they like pushing kayakers in... Which is not true.

If I have, then you'll know that the West Coast pod is down to just two members, Jon Coe and Aquaraius, who recently separated with Aquarius remaining unseen for several months. Rather than assuming a 'tiff', the worst was feared.

I'm very happy to say they were sighted together again earlier this months and seem to be doing OK. Have read (or just admire the photos) on the blog.

The West Coast Community inspires a strong connection with not only those that have been lucky enough to see them but everyone who knows their incredible story. In our most recent blog we reflect on a roller coaster of a year for John Coe and Aquarius. ©Hebrides Cruises, Indy Greene

If you’re heading to us and coming from Mull or Lochaline, or heading to Mull after and adventure with us, be aware of road closure and amnesty times for the next 8 days.

Details below. If only the Highland Council would keep us this well informed about the Corran Ferry situation…

⛔️ Temporary Road Closure ⛔️
📌 A884 Lochaline Road, Morvern
📆 15 September 2025 until 23 September 2025

The closure is to allow for essential resurfacing works to be conducted safely.

No alternate route is available, a closure with regular amnesties will be in effect to maintain access through the A884.

The Road will remain open for the weekend of 20th/21st of September.

We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused and thank the local community for their patience.

Yesterday’s calm before the torrential rain.

It was beautiful out there even in the rain. And we saw another of the local otter feeding.

It’s September 1st and that means…

The beginning of autumn in the meteorological world as well as the start of the annual 'storm season'

Since 2015 incoming storms have been named by the public and this is the ones we have to look forward to.

‘T’ will be fun for weather presenters and is anyone actually called ‘Wubbo’?

I wouldn't mind a few more days like this one to get through to the end of the season!

Hopefully, October will be the second summer we sometimes get. If you're an optimist (like me), then book ahead for the school holidays and I'll guarantee no midges on your paddling adventure.

Do you think ‘downhill canoe racing’ will catch on and make it to the Olympics?
