Hello how
I am Douglas Slater a PGA level 2 golf coach, started coaching 2006 and progressed and went through training to become level 2 coach for the Stromness Golf Club and the Orkney Islands Junior Golf Partnership. Junior Convener for 13 years plus to date and still Lead Coach/coordinator at Stromness Golf, for 18 and half years, PGA L2 Lead Coach since 2015, my new venture is to promote golf

to all parts of the Orkney Islands, my hometown and home club is Stromness GC, I started earlier this year sessions for the Youth/Adult beginners and elite Junior golfers to book a 45 minute session where there was a 5 linked session on offer or individual sessions as and when, for more information please click on the links below;

Well, Yesterday, was our first visit from Calum Satterley PGA Professional golf coach, all the members private lessons were full which we appreciate, Roving Pro Junior also full plus our Get into Golf (Adults) was full also, it was a very busy day for Calum and his assistant, thank you to all who registered from our promotional events.
The weather could have been a little warmer, but the enthusiasm of all the existing / new Golfers kept us warm.
All attendees were very appreciative of this opportunity offered at Stromness Golf Club; homebased coaching will be scheduled for the squads to help progressing their developments points given.

Looking forward to the next Roving Pro visit in the middle of June, with Calum Satterley.
These events does not just happen over night, thank you Orkney Islands Junior Golf Partnership for bring this all together and Pentland Ferries for their support for the Roving Pro programme and of course Calum Satterley and Scottish Golf for the RP funding programme.

We had 7 lady Beginner's invited to play last night, with 5 players attending it was fun and enjoyable, great to see their coaching shining through, some great shots, our group was going out for their first 9 holes with score cards as a bench mark towards handicap, we have everyone signed up as a SGC members and registered in the Scottish Golf App, all this is part of our Golfing pathways we have offered for over 10 years thanks to Scottish Golf, we all wish for some summer weather now Ladies⛳️😎⛳️

It was very pleasant and satisfying feeling today at Stromness Golf Club, for the work carried out in the spring and even more recently with our west primary school visits has certainly paid off the hard work with Active Schools, Tina and Audrey, today was all about letting our visitors today have a shot in trying Golf and fun at the same time, it was absolutely brilliant as we had 44 people along from 10am onwards got finished up around 4.40pm, Youths, Adults and Juniors plus Students of various age groups what a day and a great sessions.
Deemed a tremendous success with everyone was very appreciative with alot of thank you's, our Open Day has been with a number of Beginner memberships, GIG (Adults), Junior forms all taken away and some fill in on the day, good news there might be smile coming from our membership secretary.
It is days like this which really gives you as a Golf Coach an extra spring in you step knowing we have put Stromness Golf Club firmly on the Map again !
A big thank you must go to SGC Ladies and Stromness Golf Club Junior Section committees for the assistance thanks also to Karen, George and Ann and making it happen and all worthwhile.
Wish all of you a great summer of golf going forward.
