ππ€ Strensall Tigresses Under 16 kicked off their 5th league campaign with a home game against Great Driffield today. The hot and dry summer seemed long gone when the girls set up under a light drizzle on the very healthy looking pitch at Stillington sport and social club.
But the long summer break was definitely over for the girls after a quick start from visitors saw them take the lead inside 2 minutes. This was followed by a good spell from the Tigresses playing some good football in the opposition half and be awarded a few corners for their efforts.
However, the superiority of Great Driffield showed during the rest of the first half. Their attacking waves came thick and fast, and they scored more goals to reach half time on a healthy 7-0 lead.
The second half was a different story: on the one hand, the Tigresses had to swap keeper with Ella H taking over from Bella, one of 3 coming off injured. On the other hand, the visitors dropped to 10 players, which evened out the play.
The Tigresses showed a lot more of what they know how to do well. They tackled, they passed, they took defenders on and they shot more. Ava eventually made her pace and power count and scored.
There was still a lot of defensive work to do however, as both sides were trying to score more. The high level of intensity also showed as a few of the girls had to be rotated for knocks or simply recover from all their efforts.
There were no more goals scored and despite Strensall Tigresses U16 losing the game 1-7, their commitment and encouragement for each other was commendable.
π Coaches player went to Ellie B for her solid defensive work on both sides of the back line against strong opposition wingers π Parents gave their votes to Isla for captainβs performance started across the back line and finished in midfield, where she ran herself to the ground! π
Next week will see the girls play away at Pocklington π€π
