πŸ’›πŸ–€ On a beautiful and sunny spring Saturday morning, Strensall Tigresses Under 15 made the trip across to Holme Rovers Panthers, with the chance to ensure a top of the league place with a win.

Both teams played out an attritional first twenty minutes, with neither team really creating anything of note. Then Strensall managed to create a couple of clearer opportunities which tested the Holme keeper, but with no reward. With half-time approaching, Ellen did magnificently to win a ball in midfield and feed Ava who ran through on goal. She finished into the 'top bins' to round off a great piece of play. Strensall led at half-time but the game was still in the balance.

Holme came out with plenty of purpose at the beginning of the second half but for their pressure, they never really tested Bella in goal. As the half wore on, Ella R stuck at her task of holding onto the ball in the area and drew a foul from the defender. Ellie B stepped up to take the penalty and rattled the crossbar! The girls continued to stick at their task, and at a crucial midway point in the half, Ava found herself through on goal thanks to a threaded pass from Lia, and finished into the top corner again. The rest of the game included a good strike from Ella R on a rebound which hit the bar, and a close range finish from Cara from another rebound to add gloss to the scoreline.

A big thank you to Holme Rovers for hosting this morning on a superb playing surface. Thank you to their head coach Ashley for sorting one of our players out with shin pads and socks before the game!

The 3-0 win assured the Tigresses of a top place finish in this league no matter the results of the other matches to still be completed. Ellen picked up the parents player award for her midfield general role, and Ella R picked up the coaches award for her direct running, crossing and battling to win the ball back. Bella was given the opposition player of the match which was fully deserved for her faultless display of handling, kicking and sweeping.

The girls have worked so hard to find an identity and learn a clear way of playing and they have reaped the rewards for their efforts. They are an outstanding bunch of girls who are a credit to their families and themselves.

We now move onto tournament season, with our first one being our own on Saturday 9th May at Durlston. Lots still to look forward to πŸ―πŸ’›πŸ–€

On Saturday Strensall Tigresses Under 15 played their third league game in division B away at Pocklington. And it ended up being a 12 goal thriller!

The home team started strongly with a high press and pushed the Tigresses back in their last third. It was against the run of play that Jess scored her first goal for the team before Ava added another to put the girls 2-0 up. But soon Pocklington’s pressure eventually paid off and they scored 2 goals to peg the Tigresses back to 2-2. In that time, Hollie had to come off after a heavy fall on her knee meant she could not take further part in the game. As the first half was drawing to a close, Ava ran onto a through ball to finish with a deft touch past the onrushing keeper and give Strensall Tigresses U15 a flattering lead at half time.

Soon after the break, Pocklington got back on terms again after a scramble following a corner. After that, it became a bit of a cup game with each team pushing to get another goal. And they did with Strensall getting ahead when Cara volleyed in one of Chesca’s numerous corner kicks. Before Pocklington scored again after an incisive break. Lia then hit the post. And Ava scored her hat trick with a well taken shot low past the keeper.

In a frantic finish the home side scored another 2 goals to take the lead for the first time in the contest. Martha was sent up front for the final minutes of the match to try and swing the tie towards the Tigresses. And she touched a cross from the right hand side, which ended up with Ava who added a fourth goal to her name.
There was time for one more through ball to Martha, whose shot was parried for a corner by the goalkeeper. Final score 6-6!

🌟 Pocklington gave their player of the match award to Ella R, for her tireless display up front, creating chances with a couple of assists and pushing the team up the pitch when running past defenders 🌟 Parents rewarded Ava for her accomplished striker display, scoring 4 goals with a balance of finesse and power 🌟 Finally, coaches gave their votes to Jess who, for her second game back from injury, scored one, played some great through balls and showed strength to hold the ball up when the team was under pressure 🌟

Next game for Strensall Tigresses U15 will come quickly on Wednesday next week away at Bishopthorpe Purple πŸ’›πŸ–€

πŸ’›πŸ–€ On Saturday. Strensall Tigresses Under 15 were playing a friendly match away at Pocklington.

On a day where they tried a few new things, including a change of formation, the girls had a very quick start: they first got a corner from kick off, which Cara took and Megan met at the back post to score from close range. They then immediately won the ball back from the hosts kick off and Ava placed a low shot to the left of the goal keeper to make it 2-0. There was not 2 minutes on the clock yet!

The rest of the first half saw more chances created by the Tigresses, especially down the left side with Chesca and Ellie B combining well. Ava, Ella R, Cara and Hollie all had opportunities to add to the scoreline. It was Megan who eventually took her chance with a shot from range to make it 3-0.

With 14 players available today, there was a lot of turnover and a lot of girls playing in unfamiliar positions. This did not really show until the second half, when Bella came out of her regular goal keeping place to swap position with Martha at the heart of the back three. The home side pounced on a loose ball to reduced their deficit to 3-1.

The rest of the second half was relatively even with Pocklington being more pressing to try and gain ball control. The Tigresses operated with more counter attacking football and did a good job down the right hand side in particular with Ella R, Hannah and Cara. One of their few crosses found Izzy late on in the game, whose shot was met by the onrushing goalkeeper to keep the final score at 3-1.

The opposition recognised Megan’s tireless performance at the top of midfield, capped with 2 very different goals.

🌟 Parents rewarded Ellie B’s industrious role down the left hand side, mostly playing an unfamiliar wing back role 🌟 Finally, the coaches handed their trophy to Ella R for her work rate and efforts to either play past defenders or link up with players around her 🌟

πŸ’›πŸ–€ Little late posting but on Saturday morning, Strensall Tigresses Under 15 made the long trip to Wigginton Grasshoppers! The team were missing a few players but managed to get a full team out plus a sub.

Wigginton started strongly and spent a lot of the first half camped in Strensall's half, passing the ball around nicely. Strensall relied on counter attacks, and nearly took the lead with a one-on-one chance from Ava being saved. Wigginton capitalised on their dominance and put away two goals before half-time with no response from Strensall.

The second half saw a change of shape for the Tigresses and the game became a little more even. Wigginton did slot away a third goal before Ava scored another one-on-one chance to make it 3-1. Ava had another shot saved from close range by the Wigginton keeper, but Bella at the other end also made several good saves. Wigginton added a fourth goal close to the end to give a fair reflection to the scoreline.

It was a tough game for Strensall, but they can hold their heads up high with how they battled til the end against a good Wigginton side.

The next round of fixtures is still be sorted, so the girls have a couple of weeks off. But they can look forward to some games against teams around their ability πŸ’›πŸ–€

πŸ’›πŸ–€ Yesterday, Strensall Tigresses Under 15 played a league game away at high flying Scarborough Ladies, the team which knocked them out of the cup earlier on this month.

It was a fast start by the home team pushing the Tigresses to defend their penalty box, before scoring in the first 10 minutes.

The girls were having to battle hard to fend off the waves of attack, and a second goal followed. But the Tigresses somehow found some confidence and managed to threaten the home team goal with a couple of long range passes deserving better in the last third.

Half time came and the girls could hold their heads high from their hard work in a half where they mostly defended.

The second half was a very different affair. The girls started to press much higher up the pitch. They won more tackles, carried the ball forward, passed the ball well and created a number of chances. They took plenty of shots, some testing the rotating goalkeepers from Scarborough, and could have snuck a goal or two.

They ran out of steam towards the end and conceded two more goals from skilful players in the final minutes. But this does not take away from their accomplished overall performance.

🌟 Parents player of the match were split across many, but Cara edged it by a vote 🌟 Coaches could not pick out a single player and rewarded the whole team for their togetherness and performance 🌟

Next week, Strensall Tigresses U15 will play their last game from the first phase of the season away at Wigginton πŸ’›πŸ–€

18/01/2026

πŸ’›πŸ–€ For their first league game of 2026, Strensall Tigresses Under 15 were away at Scarborough Lionesses. It was an early morning for the girls, the rain had been falling heavily during the 45 minutes drive East and the farmer was spreading muck on the next field along. The scene was set!

It was a strong start with a handful of early chances driven by Ellie M’s wing play down the right side. These were followed by more chances down the other side with Cara playing some good through balls for Ava to latch on to and test the Scarborough keeper. As the half unfolded, the balance of play evened out and both teams created chances with both keepers doing a good job to keep the score at 0-0. As halftime approached, the girls tired out a little and the home team turned the screw forcing the Tigresses to apply themselves with solid defensive play.

The second half was to be much more one sided with the Tigresses creating a number of chances either with through balls or wing play bringing dangerous crosses into the Scarborough box. Unfortunately, it was an innocuous ball lost quickly after a goal kick and a long range shot over Bella, which allowed the home team to take the lead against the run of play.

The rest of the game turned out to be almost attack versus defence with the girls creating over 20 scoring chances throughout the game, but either being denied by the home goalkeeper or missing the target narrowly. The Scarborough players held on to their 1-0 lead in the end, and could have scored another goal or two on the break without excellent work from the Tigresses defence.

🌟 Coaches players went to Martha for her excellent display at the back, playing very well the role of sweeper and getting the team forward with a simple pass when not having to clear the danger under pressure 🌟 Parents recognised the multiple players who did so well today with a 4 way tie on the votes between Martha, Cara, Megan and Ellen, with Ellen clinching it for her all round midfield display 🌟

Next game will be at Scarborough against their Ladies team in 2 weeks time πŸ’›πŸ–€

πŸ’›πŸ–€ Yesterday morning, in the wind and drizzle, Strensall Tigresses U15 made the trip to Malton to play their league game against Brooklyn.

It was a good start with a couple of chances when through on goal in the opening minutes of the match. Unfortunately it unraveled quickly after that with a couple of goals conceded when Brooklyn took advantage of loose balls in the penalty box in quick succession.

The girls struggled to play the brand of football they put together in the last few games, not helped by the weather, the greasy pitch and the effective pressing from their host of the day.

In the second half, there was a little more composure, but still not enough to work the Brooklyn keeper. The passing and tackling improved, but the home side did enough to keep the score at 2-0 and win the game.

🌟 In a match where the defence was rather exposed, parents and coaches gave their player of the match award to the pair of centre backs, Martha and Isla respectively for their constent activity 🌟

Yesterday, Strensall Tigresses Under 15 were back to playing league matches, 5 weeks after their last competitive game. For the occasion, they welcomed Bishopthorpe Withe Rose Purple at Durlston drive. Both teams observed two minutes silence before kickoff as this weekend marks Remembrance Sunday.

The beginning of the game was to the Tigresses’ advantage with Ava and Ella R combining well up front. After recovering the ball quickly following a goal kick from the visitors, Ella R got an early reward with a neat finish low down the keeper’s left post.
A few minutes later, Ava was able to double the girls lead with a shot from distance following clinical passing to play her through by Cara.

Strensall Tigresses U15 were having a very strong first half with further clear cut chances created by Izzy’s neat attacking play, Cara’s perseverance in the box and another through ball for Ava to latch onto.
Unfortunately they could not convert any of them, partly due to the good display from Bishopthorpe’s goalie. Instead, the opposition managed to score with a low shot from distance out of Bella’s reach. So the first half finished with a 2-1 scoreline.

After the break, it got more difficult for the Tigresses, as they found themselves struggling with some of the physicality from their opponents. Despite creating more chances on the break, it was Bishopthorpe who had the momentum. Their consistent pressure led to a number of throw-ins high up the pitch and corners, which the girls defended with some great individual efforts.
In the end, Strensall Tigresses U15 managed to keep the score at 2-1 to record a hard fought win, their second of the season.

🌟 Bishopthorpe recognised Ella H for her good all round display at the heart of the defence, keeping their striker quiet all game 🌟 Parents rewarded Ella R who got the team off to a strong start and was a constant threat up front 🌟 Finally, the coaches gave their player of the match award to Hannah who was solid at right back throughout the game with good decision making between tackling and holding up her opponents 🌟

On a breezy but sunny autumn morning, Strensall Tigresses Under 15 played a friendly against our friends Holme Rovers Panthers U15's.

After a month without playing, our girls could have been forgiven for their early indecisive passing, but after the first ten minutes, Strensall started to put their foot on the ball and played some good, composed football. The game was keenly contested, mostly in midfield, with Strensall providing a good counter attacking threat, and Holme some neat triangles up the pitch. Neither was particularly tested until towards the end of the half, when a shot from Ella R was parried into the path of Cara, who calmly took a touch and slotted the ball home.

The second half proved to be more of a scrap with some good bits of football mixed in. Holme Rovers cranked up persistent pressure down Strensall's right side, which nearly led to an equaliser. But Strensall offered plenty of threat still on the counter thanks to some wonderful through balls from Isla inparticular, and could have put the game to bed but for two good saves from the Panther's keeper. In the end it finished 1-0 to Strensall, and it was a good workout against very accomodating hosts who play in the right way.

The defence were outstanding today, with lots of noteworthy moments. The midfields worked hard and the attack were always threatening, particularly with Ava trying out a new striker role. But in the end 🌟 Ella H scooped coaches player for her composure on the ball, and general good defending all round 🌟 Parents player went to Chesca for her usual combative play and desire to win the ball 🌟

πŸ’›πŸ–€ After the apocalyptic weather of Friday afternoon, it was somewhat a surprise for most of the girls having to get up and play their home league game against Fulford on Saturday! The pitch was in a remarkably good condition and apart from strong crosswinds, we were treated to a competitive match of football!

The beginning of the game was dominated by the visitors. Every time Strensall Tigresses U15 managed to block an attack, the ball seemed to be invariably coming back into Fulford possession. Despite these difficulties, the girls held firm for 15 minutes until a long ball found its way to the opposition striker who scored from close range.

The visitors piled on the pressure with good football forcing the Tigresses to defend when running towards their own goal. Again, the girls held firm and managed to play some lovely football on the counter with a handful of threatening runs. However, with the last action of the first half, Fulford managed to score a second with a shot from the edge of the box following a corner.

In the second half, the tiring Tigresses managed to hold the visitors for 20 minutes before another long range shot proved too high and powerful for Bella to stop.
After a few final attempts to get something on the scoreboard with incisive running down the sides, the girls conceded a final goal in the dying seconds, making the final score 0-4.

🌟 It was a tough game to be competitive in, but the coaches rewarded Isla who showed a captain’s performance, constantly talking, battling and leading by example despite being asked to play in various positions on the pitch 🌟 Ellie M, with her dangerous forward runs and inspired through passes scooped the parents trophy 🌟

Next week will see Strensall Tigresses U15 make the trip North to Boro Rangers for the first round of the North Riding Junior Cup πŸ’›πŸ–€
