It is with great sadness that we share the news that our Chairman Pieter du Pon has passed away.

Pieter was Managing Director of The Lecht since its creation, before more recently becoming chairman of the board, and is the last of the Lecht’s original founding directors.

Since The Lecht was established in 1977, he played a central role in shaping what it would become — a place built on families, fun, safety, and a love of the mountains, where generations of families have learned, progressed, and made memories together.

Over the decades, Pieter gave an extraordinary amount of time, care, and leadership to The Lecht. He believed deeply in what The Lecht stands for: a friendly, family-focused snow sports centre that serves the local community and offers people of all ages the chance to experience the joy of being on the slopes.

Our thoughts are with his family and all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by us all. We are profoundly grateful for everything he contributed to The Lecht and to the wider community it supports.

It is with deep sadness that we share the news that our dear friend and colleague, Jock, has passed away. Jock dedicated nearly 20 years to working at the Lecht, where his hard work, friendly manner, and willingness to always help others made him a truly valued member of the team. He was a firm favourite among customers and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Adventurer, champion of the community, and a much-loved brother, uncle, partner, stepfather and friend, John (Jock) passed away at Aboyne Community Hospital on Monday, March 30, 2026. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Strathdon Medical Centre, the Anchor Unit at ARI, and all the staff at Aboyne Community Hospital for their compassionate care and support. A memorial service and celebration of Jock’s life will be held at Corgarff Village Hall on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at 3:00pm. Where the river runs and the sky meets the hills, exploring the land you loved - this is how you will be remembered.

Road looks to be open again

There has been an accident at the cockbridge snow gates. Police and ambulances are in attendance, and we believe the road is currently closed.

As the ski season has come to an end the centre is now closed.

Snowsports Closure Update

After careful consideration, we have taken the sad decision to close for snowsports for the time being.

Despite the fantastic efforts of our team to move harvested snow and produce additional cover with the snow factory, current conditions mean that it is no longer possible for us to maintain safe and enjoyable snowsports operations.

If we are fortunate enough to receive significant natural snowfall, we will of course review conditions and look at reopening the slopes. We will keep everyone updated should that happen.

We would like to say a huge thank you to all of our customers for their support throughout the season, and to our amazing staff and volunteers who have worked incredibly hard to make the most of the snow whenever it arrived.

We hope to see you all again soon — and we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed for more snow

Huge thanks to the G Snow team for putting on a fantastic TOSH DASH and always supporting the LECHT. The centre is now closed on Monday and Tuesday, will re open on Wednesday. We will be making snow on the Magic Carpets so both will be improved for Wednesday.

It’s a beautiful blue bird day and the Beginners area is looking awesome just being prepared with some fresh snow natural and factory. We also expect to operate the buzzard today. It’s gonna be a lovely day come join us for some snow fun. Don’t forget Tosh Dash happening here this Sunday
