Spey (Harris Hawk) I find it hard to believe that she is coming up for 23 years old. She has seen a lot, done a lot and still has that confidence about her. She was looking great in the early evening sun

We survived Fridays storm. The birds were all okay when I checked on them on Friday evening and there was no damage to the centre.

There lots of debris lying about, a few larger branches had broken off from some of the trees and there was 1 or 2 smaller trees down in woods. On the whole we got off very lightly.

I’ve been a bit quiet on the social media recently due to various things happening, I do feel though I have to share the sad news that Corrie (European Eagle Owl) is no longer with me. Unfortunately on Tuesday he was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of cancer and I took the decision to have him put to sleep.

He was almost 22 years old. Maybe not ancient for a eagle owl but certainly getting on. He had been with me since he was 3 weeks old.

Corrie was Mr Reliable. He would just fly when I needed him. Nothing seemed to phase him. I could take him to big events or shows and he would just deal with it. He did have a habit of falling asleep on his perch.

He would sometimes take his time to respond but he would fly I just had to be patient. He was such as great bird to work with.

I can’t quit believe he has gone. 22 years is a long time. We had so many ups and downs over the years. I will miss him so much.

Thank you Corrie

A new addition to the team. Meet Zique a male Harris Hawk. I got him back in August but due to work commitments training has been a lot longer than expected and very stop start. He flew free today and was brilliant. Flying about and coming straight to the glove when called. Now just to get him doing bookings

I don’t offer hunting experiences but every so often instinct kicks in and a bird (mainly the Harris Hawks) see something and think I can catch that. Last week it was Dram’s (male Harris Hawk) turn. I lost him for a minute of 2 high up in the branches only see him falling with something in his feet. When I got to him a few seconds later I could see he had caught a grey squirrel. Not something I encourage my birds to go after due to the risk of serious injury due to how hard a squirrel can bite

Spey (female Harris Hawk) looking intense and focussed as ever when our flying the other day. Just trying to find time to fly her and get her fit. Now 22 years old she has kind of been there, seen it and done it

I have been a bit quiet on social media lately mainly due to the summer months being relentless with bookings but the busy season is now behind me. It’s a time to relax and look at all the other things that need done in the centre. It is also a time to hopefully fly some of the birds for my own enjoyment. It was great to get out with Spey (Harris Hawk) and just enjoy flying a bird for myself
