We are running an Introduction to Canyoning Course on 9th-10th May from our base Gairloch. The course is aimed for those who would like to get into canyoning but aren’t sure where to start.

The course is a great way to get an overview of what canyoning is all about and meet like minded canyoneers. By the end of the two days you’ll be to join an easy/moderate canyon descent led by a more experienced canyoneer.

We provide all the safety equipment including wetsuits, helmets, harness and ropes. Just bring a decent pair of trainers (or canyon specific boots) and some enthusiasm to learn a new skill!

We’re running another NCC Coasteering Guide Training Course and Assessment (for those that have already done the relevant training). It will be based in Gairloch at our base which has good access to several great and varied venues that work in all types of conditions. The course will be run by Dave Slade.

We had a successful ‘Intro to Split-boarding’ day last week making the most of the snow. There’s still a decent depth on the tops and in the burns so well worth an explore. We covered loads on the day and finished with a boot pack up and ride down Gully No 2 in the fading light.

We have another course running on 22nd March with a couple places still left then we’ll be running more next year so keep an eye on our website for details or fire us a message to get put on the mailing list.

After receiving several requests for Splitboarding Courses I’ve put up a couple of dates for this winter. These are one day introduction courses and will be based in the Cairngorms. If they prove popular I will look to run more of them next winter. I can also put on more dates upon request, including multiple days. The course is suitable for snowboarders* who are confident on red runs but have little off piste or touring experience. Topics that will be covered may include;
- Weather, Avalanche, Planning and Equipment
- Winter Navigation
- Off-Piste Riding Technique
- Route Choice (Ascent and Descent)
- Avalanche Rescue and Emergency Procedures
�All courses will be run exclusively by me. I have been a snowboard instructor for over 18 years, a Winter ML for 8 years and spend much of my spare time splitboarding and ski touring in Scotland and abroad. I am also a mountain rescue volunteer and assist in delivering team winter training as well as Scottish Mountain Rescue Avalanche courses.

Dates - Monday 9th March & Sunday 22nd March
Price - £95pp (including Transceiver, Shovel, Probe but not splitboard rental)

Changing seasons with some northerly winds bringing with it some wintery weather and different work.
I spent the weekend helping deliver some water rescue training for at feshie bridge with John and Jules. Keen group from various teams eager to get stuck in and learn.
Got a day pass from to stay over East for an extra day and make the most of the winter conditions in the Cairngorms and managed to snag a first winter route of the season with We climbed Wavelength which was a new route for both of us and a decent length (four pitches!) especially for the Northern Corries.
Didn’t forget anything and only faffed a bit so some good prep for delivering winter courses this year with and as well as a couple more avalanche courses for
Even picked up my season pass for Heard it’s going to be the best winter yet…!?

The sea is a similar temperature to the summer and our 5mm wetsuits paired up with a cag keep everyone nice and toasty 🔥

I’ve had a busy September with a mixture of late season bookings, mountain rescue training on Skye and attending a some workshops and meet ups to get out of the Gairloch bubble and ensure I’m staying current in the activities I deliver. As well as the odd day climbing, both esoteric and actually enjoyable.

Having all the right qualifications for the job is one thing, but it’s also important to stay on top of any developments that come out of the experience of others - even if that involves driving half way across the country 🚗
