Five steps to learn the air dribble in under 20 minutes

Step 1:
Start with the ball on your right side, throw it up, and let it drop on your left.

Step 2:
Learn the reverse side.
Left hand under the stick, right hand on top, then flick the ball back to the right.

Step 3:
Start on the right, flick to the left, bring the stick over the top, and just get a touch.
Do not worry about control yet.

Step 4:
Now try to make that touch send the ball back towards the right.

Step 5:
Complete one full rotation.
Right to left, back to right, then start linking them together.

The lower you keep it, the easier it is.
If you want the real challenge, see how high above your head you can do it.

Save this and try it next session.

Learn this street skill in 20 minutes.

Step 1: Stick flip only
Hold the stick out in front, top hand slightly lower, and practise rotating it without hitting yourself.
Catch it every time.

Step 2: Ball lift only
Throw the ball straight up.
Not sideways, not forwards, straight up.

Step 3: Add both together
Lift the ball and rotate the stick, but do not worry about catching either yet.
Just get used to the timing.

Step 4: Catch the stick
Do the same movement, but now focus only on catching the stick.
Ignore the ball.

Step 5: Catch the ball
Once the ball goes straight up and you can catch the stick, try to catch the ball as it drops.

Save this and try it next time you are at the pitch.

Want to hit backhands into the top corners?

Do not leave height to chance.
And do not try to “ramp” the ball up your stick.

If you want it flat, hit the middle of the ball.
If you want it high, hit the bottom of the ball.

The difference is your hand height.

Flat backhand:
Handle lines up around the middle of your shin.

High backhand:
Push the handle lower so it lines up closer to the top of your ankle.

It is only a few inches, but that is the difference between flat and top bins.

Save this and test it next session.

If your backhand is inconsistent, check your ball position first.

When you are learning, the ball should be in line with your front foot.

If the ball is behind your front foot, you have to shift your weight a long way back to connect cleanly. It feels awkward and you are more likely to hit it badly.

If the ball is in front of your front foot, you often hit the ground first, skip over the ball, or catch it with the back of the stick.

The fix:
Make sure your foot lines up with the ball before you strike.

Better ball position means cleaner contact, more consistency, and more goals.

Save this for your next backhand session.

The warm up sets the tone for your entire training session.

If you mess around, chat, and do not take it seriously, you are setting yourself up for a bad session.

If you warm up with focus, build intensity properly, and prepare the muscles and skills you need, the rest of the session becomes so much better.

It does not mean going 100 percent straight away.
A good warm up starts controlled and builds.
But the focus should be there from the first minute.

Chat to your teammates before training.
Once you step on the pitch, start preparing to perform.

Save this before your next session.

Dragflick training 😈🏑

Working on staying lower for longer, pushing wrists forward later and being more explosive at the end

If you play centre mid, you do not need to dribble past people to be effective.

Your job is to move the ball forward by creating space for the team.

How:
Receive from the centre back.
Hold the ball just long enough to draw the forwards in.
Then play it back and across to the other side where you have created space.

The skill is timing.
Hold it too long and you get tackled.
Release it too early and you have not drawn anyone in.

Two habits that make this work:
Constant shoulder checks so you know where the pressure and space are.
A clear agreement with your defenders so the switch to the other side happens quickly.

If you can draw pressure and switch play at the right moment, you control the game.
