Areley Kings Athletic v FC Lakeside Sunday League Match

Today, we hosted FC Lakeside, another team we knew nothing about, so anything could happen.

Areley started a little slow, and FC got on top. They were a big physical side and played decent football. Areley was struggling to get on the ball and play our way. FC created a few chances but didn't convert them, Areley had a couple of our own Alex hitting the crossbar. FC took the lead with a ball through the middle, going one on one and slipping it in.

1 0 down at half time, we talked about how our pace against their back line could get us back in the game, we just need to tighten up down the middle of the pitch, stop them shooting.

Well we went out and got off to a flyer, Alex lobbing the keeper and Ells nodded it in, the lads were pumped and now believing in themselves, 3 mins later we were awarded a penalty which Jorge stepped up and slotted it home. From this point on, we were quite dominant and got a 3rd. FC did get one back right at the end, but Areley held out for the win.

Well done all, MotM went to Henry and Monty, both in the back line, giving it their all and leading by example in the way they played.

U16 started their campaign today with a home clash against last season’s league winners, Callowbrook- introducing 4 new signings, our lads were fantastic from start to finish- Goals from Keigan (2), Keegan & Harry gave us a deserved 4-2 win! One of our new lads, Junior grabbed a deserved player of the match award! Well done everyone- the confidence is high for a successful season 👍⚽️

Areley Kings Athletic v Bishops Cleeve U15's League Match

Return of Sunday football, and we were keen to get going. Football is back.

Areley started very brightly moving the ball around really well, playing some excellent possession based football. It really was pleasing on the eye. Whilst we had chances, we didn't create a clean opportunity, that is until the 26th minute when Alex laid the ball of to Matty who chopped it back onto his right foot and shot into the near post. A few minutes later, we doubled the lead, quick thinking by Elliot with a throw-in to Jorge, who was just outside the box, took his time and curled it in, it was a real quality goal. Areley got a third just before the break, Matty finding Alex, who forced his way through to poke the ball home.

So halftime 3 0 up it was quite a relaxed talk, just keep doing what we are doing and keep the energy high.

Well perhaps we were too relaxed as Bishops Cleeve came right back at us and had a good spell in the game, they managed to get 2 goals back and made it a bit nervey for us, but then Elliots pace took him wide right and decent cross in for Alex to head it back across the keeper and in, that gave us a little breathing room again. We added one more right at the end of the game, another throw-in from Elliot and Zach out muscled the defence with a twisting turn and shot rifled in. What a good start to the season the lads did superbly well, onwards and upwards 💪⚽️

MotM I went with Monty at the back. He was cool, calm, and collected, winning the ball back and playing it out. Neil went with Charlie in the middle of the park. He battled hard and played simple football very effectively. Well done, lads.
