We, as Forestry England, are supportive of mountain biking in our nation’s forests, and we love seeing people enjoying Wyre Forest.
However, most of the mountain bike trails you see in Wyre Forest are unauthorised which means they have been built without the landowner’s permission. That's either ourselves or Natural England.
Whilst we can tolerate some of these, there are unfortunately a handful of trails in the Wimperhill area which we have to close. These exit dangerously onto public rights of way along Dowles Brook, and are putting other forest users at risk. They are also causing significant erosion on the hillside which is having a negative effect on the natural environment.
Before we close these trails, we would like to speak to mountain bikers to talk more in depth why these trails are a problem and to discuss riding in Wyre Forest.
We are holding public drop-in sessions at Earnwood car park on 19th February and at Wyre Forest Visitor Centre on 26th February (both from 10am), so please do come along and chat to our team.
We also have a new email address specifically for the team looking after the trails, so drop us an email at [email protected]
