Becky, Studio Owner, broke her foot in July. 3 weeks off work and a total of 5 weeks in a walking boot. She's out of it now, back in trainers β but her own practice hasn't just picked up where it left off. Rebuilding what five weeks of immobility cost her is taking real time, exercise by exercise.
Even before the boot came off, she started gentle mobilising as pain allowed. Once it was ready to come off, the toe corrector came first β building back the strength that had gone from her foot, ankle and hip. Then the Wunda Chair, pumping initially in a trainer, to start rebuilding a leg that had genuinely wasted from weeks of not being used. Footwork on the reformer came after that, and the foot corrector too, both avoiding the arch to begin with. Anything on the reformer that didn't put pressure through the foot, she kept doing the whole way through.
She's still building intrinsic strength back into the foot now, adding exercises in slowly rather than rushing it. There's knock-on work too β mobilising her back, hip and shoulder, all affected by weeks spent on crutches.
Teaching continued but her own Pilates had to take a few steps back.
If your body's ever taken you out of something for weeks and made getting back to it feel harder than starting fresh, that's normal. Or are you struggling with an injury we could help you with now? A 1:1 is the best place to start.
