Football is more than just what happens on the pitch — today proved that.

After the bus Aths had booked was unfortunately cancelled upon arrival in Ullapool, there was a real possibility that today’s game wouldn’t go ahead. Without hesitation, Westside Football Clubstepped in and took 22 of our players on their own bus to make sure we could all get home and fulfil the fixture.

That act of kindness, sportsmanship and community spirit is something we will never forget. In football there are rivalries, tough games and competitive moments, but today showed the respect and friendship that exists beyond all of that.

From everyone at Stornoway Athletic FC, thank you so much to everyone at Westside FC — players, staff and supporters. Your generosity meant more than words can say and we are incredibly grateful.
