Western Isles Open 2025 🏆
Despite a handful of late injury call offs a great tournament was held at Lewis Sports Centre last Saturday.
After a busy schedule of group games for the players involved, it was defending champion Ross Murray, Michael Stone, Chris Dempster and Richard Middlemiss who topped the groups and made it into the semi-finals.
Having met in the final of the previous two tournaments, Ross and Michael were drawn out in the first semi-final, with Ross edging a first set before confidently wrapping up the second to progress to the final. In the other semi-final, it was Chris who got the better of Richard over two sets despite Richard having performed well in the group matches.
Despite having missed much of this year due to injury, Chris gave a good account of himself in the final but Ross was too strong and saw the match out in straight sets. Congratulations to Ross who has now won 3 Western Isles Opens on the bounce!
In the plate competition, Gordon Kennedy got the better of Iain 'Macca' Mackenzie in a tight semi-final while Derick 'Trix' Maclennan secured his place in the final after beating Joseph Macleod. Having already played 7 games on the road to the final, both players put in strong efforts in the final - with Gordon coming out on top after another tiring match.
It was great to have John Cunningham from our sponsor Car Hire Hebrides along to present the awards to the worthy winners, before we headed out for some much needed food!
