The Story of our Season 25/26
U13 Lions embarked on their first 11-a-side season on the back of promotion and could not have made a better start.
Impressive 5-0 home wins over Shenley Eagles and Shenley Phantoms, either side of a 4-0 win at Newport Pagnell Town, gave us a flying start. A hard-fought 2-1 win at Kempston followed, making us the early pace setters.
Next came back-to-back cup games. Firstly, testing ourselves in the Berks & Bucks FA County Cup with a tough trip to Haddenham Youth Rangers, losing 3-1, before opening our MKDDL Shield campaign with a 3-1 win over AFC Oakley.
Our first league defeat came on a bleak November morning at Walton, but we kept our Shield run going with a 3-1 win at Bedford Park Rangers on another wet and wild day.
Winter weather then took its toll, limiting us to just three games in three months. Back-to-back league defeats in December and January were followed by a return to form with a 5-2 home win over Walton, avenging our earlier loss.
In March, we played twice in the Shield: a 4-2 quarter-final win over Great Horwood, followed by an agonising 2-1 semi-final defeat to eventual double winners Tattenhoe Yellows.
Two league defeats in April left us mid-table and out of the cups. Patchy form and a backlog of fixtures could have seen us crumble, but instead, the boys rallied.
A hectic May saw us play eight times in four weeks, recording six wins, one draw and one defeat, while scoring 34 goals in the process. Highlights included an 8-0 rout of Shenley Wildcats, a 6-1 victory over Kempston, & a 4-2 win over Hartwell after losing to them earlier in the season. The dramatic 3-3 comeback at Shenley Phantoms also showed the boys’ resilience.
Our late-season surge lifted us to a creditable third-place league finish and, along with a cup semi-final, gave the boys plenty to be proud of.
