Dive 101!

In the murkiness of Stoney Cove I hit my 101st dive, and it was taking my now wife on her first open water dive as part of her BSAC - British Sub-Aqua Club Ocean Diver qualification! Most people celebrate their 100th, but for me, my 101st was special.

My Diving Journey - Part 4

Coming back from Cyprus I had a long hiatus from diving, mostly due to my work commitments, but in 2022 I got back in the water as I began my instructor journey. Applying what I had learned in Cyprus, I went through the Instructor Training Scheme (ITS) and became a qualified Open Water Instructor (OWI), teaching others to dive. Winning an award for my qualification was the cherry on the cake for my diving in 2022!

My Diving Journey - Part 3

With just 13 dives to my name, in 2020 I had the opportunity to work out in Cyprus with the dive centre, helping deliver BSAC - British Sub-Aqua Club courses to students. Here I learned a lot about wider diving operations, as well as furthering my own diving becoming a Dive Leader and completing several Skill Development Courses (SDCs). I left Cyprus having completed a total of 89 dives; it was a busy year considering COVID restrictions!

Soon I'll be sharing a little bit about invasive species in the coastal environment, but this work on our South coast is a great step to supporting our native oyster population! The species are threatened and this goes to show how we can help maintain our marine ecosystem.

A large number of native oysters are set to be deployed on the Langstone Marine reef in The Solent, following preparation work by volunteers and the BLUE Marine Foundation

My Diving Journey - Part 2

After qualifying as a BSAC Ocean Diver, my next step was completing the Sports Diver syllabus. Again I completed the theory and pool sessions with Cranwell Sub-Aqua Club throughout 2019, but for my qualifying dives I went out to Joint Service Sub Aqua Diving Centre in Cyprus in November to complete the open water sessions and qualify!

Seasearch is a project run by the Marine Conservation Society which gives divers and snorkelers around the country an opportunity to add purpose to their activities. I've recently got involved with the project and excited to contribute to the UK's marine conservation programme!

Seasearch is a project for recreational divers and snorkelers who want to do their bit for the marine environment by collecting and submitting data.

It was great to get back into the water a couple of weeks back and I'm already planning my next dive! Check out my blog post from my first dive(s) of the year, which included my 100th logged dive. Here's to the next 100!
