Active Schools Aberdeenshire

Active Schools Aberdeenshire page for Active Schools Aberdeenshire These opportunities are available before, during and after school, as well as in the wider community.

Active Schools is a key element in the Scottish Government’s drive to get more Scots more active; a commitment outlined in the National Physical Activity Strategy, ‘Let’s Make Scotland More Active’. The fundamental aim of the Active Schools Network is to offer school-aged children the motivation and opportunities to adopt active and healthy lifestyles. But Active Schools is more than just getting

school-aged children to take part in formal sport and exercise. Active Schools also aims to introduce more physical activity into their daily lives through active travel, play and dance. As such, the physical activity and sport element of Active Schools links closely with a number of other key government initiatives- Health Promoting Schools and Safer Routes to Schools, to name just two- and is supported by a broad range of partners. Active Schools also impacts on a number of other key policies and initiatives, such as the Curriculum for Excellence, which has an important role to play in promoting the health and well being of children and young people and all of those in the educational communities to which they belong. 🎉 Huge congratulations to HOLLIE SIWEK! 🎉

We are incredibly proud to celebrate Hollie, who has been awarded both the Aberdeenshire ClubSport Young Volunteer of the Year and Ellon Academy Volunteer of the Year 👏

Hollie has been a true superstar with Active Schools, contributing an amazing 286+ hours of volunteering so far — and every single hour has been filled with enthusiasm, positivity and genuine care for others 💛

A valued and trusted part of our Active Schools team, Hollie has made a lasting impact on the experiences of so many young people across our programmes.

And it doesn’t stop there… Hollie’s commitment to volunteering goes above and beyond:
✨ Supporting residents at a local care home during school holidays
✨ Helping in the academy library
✨ Assisting with nursery after-school activities
✨ Playing a key role as one of our fantastic Active Schools Young Leaders
✨ Volunteering with Police Scotland Youth Volunteers
✨ Marshalling at running events

Hollie truly embodies what it means to give back to the community, and we couldn’t be prouder.

🌟 It’s – Let’s Celebrate Our Amazing Volunteers! 🌟

This week, we want to say a HUGE thank you to all of our incredible volunteers who help make Active Schools programmes happen every single week. 👏 Your time, energy and enthusiasm give children and young people more opportunities to get active, have fun and build confidence through sport and physical activity! Keep an eye on our pages over this week to see some posts about some of our amazing volunteers.

We are always looking to create more opportunities for young people to take part – and that’s where YOU could come in!
✅ You don’t need experience in a specific sport
✅ You just need to be enthusiastic and willing to give it a go
✅ Every contribution makes a difference
Whether it’s:
⚽ A fun 45-minute after-school club, playing fun playground games
🏀 A sport-specific session, for those that have a particular interest
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Helping as part of a rota with other parents/guardians or community members

We’ll support you every step of the way – Active Schools will organise all the paperwork and help set everything up, so you can focus on delivering fun, active sessions.

There’s no long-term commitment required—just a short block of sessions can have a big impact!
📍 Opportunities are available within individual schools and across cluster networks.
✨ It’s a fantastic opportunity for you and for local children and young people.
