Captain’s Day Weekend

On Friday evening we held the annual Captain vs Vice Captain 9 hole match where we invite and thank all the club staff and volunteers for their help over the last 12 months with a fun competition and Fish & Chips.

The Captain’s team managed a 2.5-1.5 victory and proudly awarded once again Vice Captain Allister with the coveted “Horses Ass Medal”

On Saturday we held the Captain’s Prize, where the entire club are invited to play 18 holes of non handicap qualifying stableford, enjoy a burger from the BBQ and a couple of drinks on us.

Our chosen charity for 2026 was Friends of Anchor and it was great to see a few colourful character’s on the day, raising £540 from competition entries for their wondeful local charity close to many of us

Our Gully Hut Chipping Contest raised £315 towards our junior section. Successful Chippers were - Neil Fowler, Neil Irvine, Scott Cameron, Brian Davie, David Bell (also successful in 2025), Allister McKechnie, Yvonne Scott, Andy Stewart, Kenny Duncan, Ian Wood & Fraser Boyce.

Gents Open 2026 - Results

Thank You to all 77 participants yesterday for our Annual Gents Open. Hopefully everyone enjoyed their day. See attached list of prize winners (visitors will have their voucher posted out to their home club next week).

Thank You also to members Graeme Wilson & John Currie who both welcomed and ran the event very smoothly, without your help, these days are not the success they are.

This week we held both the 9 hole and 18 hole junior championships. With 5 trophies up for grabs this week and lots of new faces, nobody expected 4 of them to be retained again in 2026 by the 2025 winners.

WE ARE HIRING!

Job Opportunity: Greenkeeper

Stonehaven Golf Club is looking for a passionate and driven Greenkeeper to join our existing team. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your skills and advance your career within the industry.

The successful candidate should have proven experience as a greenkeeper, with the ability to work under pressure and respond proactively to the varied requirements of a busy golf club. A keen eye for detail, an excellent work ethic, and a genuine passion for continuous improvement are essential.

Reporting directly to the Head Greenkeeper, you will be required to work weekends on a rota basis. The ability to work independently, as well as within a small team, is crucial.

Established in 1888, our club is an important part of the local community. We continue to invest in course development and maintenance, aiming to provide a high standard of presentation and an enjoyable experience for all golfers.

Preferred Skills and Requirements:

- SVQ Level 2 minimum (Level 3 preferred)
- Minimum of 2 years' greenkeeping experience
- Experienced in using and maintaining a range of modern golf course machinery
- A strong understanding of health and safety within a greenkeeping environment
- Spraying certificates (preferred but not essential)
- An interest in golf (advantageous)

Consideration may also be given to applicants from outside the golf industry who display a strong capability and a keen interest to learn.

We offer a competitive salary and benefits package depending on experience and qualifications.

The Gully Hut was open on a warm, if blowy, day for the Ladies’ 3BBB Open on Friday. The Stableford format, with best 2 scores counting, resulted in the first 3 teams all tied on 81 points with final places decided by count-back.

Kincardine & Deeside Pennant Success

Congratulations to the Ladies’ team of Fiona Byrnes, Rose Riddell, Fiona Sim and Wilma Lawrence on winning the Kincardine & Deeside Pennant Competition held at Peterculter on Sunday 12th July with a score of 221. Peterculter came 2nd on 224 and Torphins, one stroke behind, were 3rd. The other teams taking part were Aboyne, Auchenblae, Ballater, Banchory, Braemar and Portlethen. Fiona Sim, with a superb 69, had the best nett score of the day. This is the first time that the Ladies Section has won the trophy since 2009. Well done ladies 👏
