📣 Nosebamds: Why Riders are movivated to Tighten Nosebands
( why a gauge was created to resolve the problem of riders tightening nosebands 12 yrs ago with a taper gauge ) 📣

The behaviour of a horse's mouth is mostly closed hence a baseline behaviour

Something has to happen (pressure down the reins) to motivate horse to resolve the REIN PRESSURE by OPENING the mouth.

Now the horse is met by the tight noseband.

This is a pressure felt by the horse AFTER the behavior 💡

This is therefore POSITIVE PUNISHMENT- an aversive pressure to supress future unwanted behavior (mouth opening )

It is NOT Removal reinforcement (or negative reinforcement) when riders believe a noseband is necessary or that a noseband changes mouth opening via the mode of learning (makes a behaviour MORE likely) negative reinforcement.
