🔥 A great way to finish another 3-month chapter of learning grappling through a self-defence lens.
Tonight wasn't just about stripes, grades or showing what these kids can do on the mats.
For me, coaching children is about giving them tools that reach far beyond the gym.
Yes, I want them to develop the physical skills to protect themselves if they ever find themselves in a situation where they need them.
But I also want them to learn to recognise red flags in the people around them.
To understand their own boundaries.
To develop confidence without needing to prove themselves.
To think about consequences, make good decisions under pressure, and recognise when walking away is the smartest option.
Because the chances of any of them needing to physically fight their way out of a situation are thankfully very small.
The lessons they learn about confidence, awareness, problem-solving, resilience and decision-making, however, can stay with them for the rest of their lives.
I'm incredibly proud of these kids — not simply because of what they can do on the mats, but because of the people they're becoming.
And that's what I hope they carry with them long after they've outgrown their first belt. ❤️
If you're looking for a children's programme that aims to develop more than just young athletes, we'd love to welcome you to the team.
