๐ ๐๐๐๐ - On March 4th 1943 at the age of 20, Rocky Marciano was enlisted into the Army and was sent overseas to fight in Europe. Marciano was assigned to the 150th Combat Engineers and stationed in Wales where he helped ferry supplies across the English Channel to Normandy. The 150th regiment went on to receive honorary service stars for their assistance in Normandy and Central Europe during World War 2.
Marciano first took up boxing in the army, reportedly as a way to get out of kitchen duty.
When the war ended, Rocky received an honorable discharge from the Army with the rank of Private First Class, in order to pursue his boxing career.
Rocky Marciano went on to finish unbeaten his entire professional career with 49 wins, 43 KO's and 0 defeats. Marciano remains the only fighter ever to have stopped every opponent he ever faced for the world heavyweight title.
The word legend is thrown around a lot these days. But, Rocky Marciano is a true legend.
The man was known for training relentlessly, giving him the ability to carry his power all the way to the fifteenth round.
