CLUB STATEMENT
It has come to the Club’s attention that there is a Facebook post regarding the Hanley Town Youth Development Programme (YDP) by a former manager of the YDP. The post claims that trophies were withheld without providing full context that the team owes hundreds of pounds in unpaid subscription fees that are used to purchase trophies among other programme expenses. Additional discussion since has made accusations of delayed kit, canceled training sessions, and threats of fines by the Club. Kit was ordered as soon as the team’s manager submitted it and delivered by Fused Sport within the timelines committed. Some training sessions were canceled due to circumstances outside the clubs’ control and alternate slots were offered but the team’s manager opted not to utilise them. Lastly, no one at the club has threatened fines – we do not have the authority to do so and that authority rests with the FA. The Hanley Town Football Club has contacted the FA regarding the statements and requested an investigation. The Club is disappointed the manager has decided to pursue this course of action instead of pursuing constructive dialogue. However, the club will continue to pursue an amicable closure to the issue.
Chairman Tom McGrew stated, “The Club is committed to youth football and will continue to be. We are eager to see the YDP develop and grow in the future with the long-term vision of having our own facilities for training and matches. We put every single pound of sub fees directly back into the YDP. As costs rose during the season, I personally subsidized thousands of pounds for the YDP to not cause parents to need to input more money and to keep the commitment I made to the YDP at the beginning of the season.
The manager has had my personal number for well over a year and could have contacted me or anyone at the club at any point to avoid conflict but did not. The notion that someone would make a statement saying that we take money at the expense of children is false, defamatory, and offensive to all of the hardworking volunteers who make the Hanley Town YDP a success.”
