Sunday’s match on the Severn @ Bridgnorth is fully booked.

The opening of the river season saw a number of our members on the bank. The best fish of the day was a chub of 6-2 caught by our longest serving member Keith Unitt.

**Club News / Update**

Following the oxygen level crash in the bottom pool last year, the club has taken actions to prevent a repeat event this year. Terry Proctor almost singlehandedly removed trees behind peg 10 allowing more wind to agitate the water. Gary Wooliscroft has watered the pool regularly with liquid barley straw to suppress algae blooms. On behalf of the club Mark Wilton made a successful Fisheries Improvement Programme application for a Polaris Oxygen Tester and Splash Aerator. These were delivered on Friday by Jody Hughes on behalf of the Environment Agency. Oxygen levels on both pools were good 7.5 on the middle pool and 8.6 on the bottom pool, last October readings were around 1.6% on the bottom Pool. Big thankyou 👏to everyone who contributed to these actions and also the Environment Agency and Angling Trust in supporting our application.

BAILIFFS
With the start of the river season approaching we are looking for a couple of additional bailiffs particularly for the Trent at Great Haywood and also for the canal at Stone, please contact Kim Jones if interested. Remember all members can ask individuals for their licence.

Match Results & Upcoming Fixtures

The Bottom Pool once again produced a good days sport for all the members fishing Sunday's match. Everyone had plenty of bites and differing species of fish.

Leading the way from peg 4 was Kim Jones starting off with a small waggler feeding h**p and caster up in the water he had a few fish before switching to the margins and 2 plus 2. Catching skimmers,F1's, crucians and carp to 7lb on dead maggot and worm he weighed in 55-12.

Phil James on 14 also started on h**p and was having plenty of mixed fish before his swims slowed down. Changing to paste he located a few carp to 8lb finishing up with 45lb and runners up spot.

Dave Mason also had a good days mixed fishing which included a handful of decent chub. He also fished worm and dead maggots down the edge on peg 8 for a creditable 41-13.

Best of the rest was Chris Last on 12 who fished corn and pellets for another mixed net weighing 36-06. A very enjoyable days fishing in good company.

Best Weights:
Kim Jones 55-12-0
Phil James 45-0-0
Dave Mason 41-13-0
Chris Last. 36-06-0
Maurice Cooke 22-05-0
Terry Proctor 21-12-0

Wednesdays match on the Middle Pool found the fishing very moody with most of the anglers apart from one struggling to put together a decent catch. Added to the inconsistent fishing was the driving rain once again more autumnal than summer.

Rich Pedlar drew peg 35 which he didn't want (deja vu again) was the runaway winner fishing pellet long he connected with carp to 10lb and F1's for 37-14.

Phil James on 26 had a late run of fish for 10-4 and runners up spot. Geoff Cantrell managed 8-3 for thitd place spot with Dave Mason best of the rest with 5lb.

Best Weights :
Rich Pedlar 37-14-0
Phil James 10-4-0

Wednesday Canal Sweepstake Result

Another excellent turnout for the latest Wednesday club match on the Shroppie at tin bridge saw participants endure driving rain and gale force winds. The match itself produced mixed fortunes with some anglers struggling for bites whilst others had a decent days fishing. The high turnout saw the match split either side of the Bridge.

Steve Smith drawn on 6 opposite the black car towards the Anchor eventually found good size skimmers tucked into the far side bank. Double red maggot in 14 inches of water saw him weigh in a creditable 11-10-4 for a match winning weight.

Kim Jones on 18 the end peg towards Shebdon road bridge switched between worm and dead reds to land a mix of skimmers, pommies and perch plus a bonus 2lb eel for 9-6-0. Unfortunately for him the last hour and half were lost as an inconsiderate boater decided to move moorings making a complete mess of parking up directly opposite in driving wind and rain.

Third place was a close call with Bernie Leatherbarrow on 1 just edging it by 8 drams with a mixed bag for 6-14-8. Les O on 11 just missed out having 48 fish for 6-14-0.

Best of the rest was End Peg Bob with 5-8-0, the last payout went to Ted with 3lb.

Despite the weather a good day out.

Best Weights :
Steve Smith 11-10-4
Kim Jones 9-6-0
Bernie Leatherbarrow 6-14-8

**Match Result & Upcoming Fixtures**

Another hot sunny day (not complaining) greeted anglers for the latest Wednesday sweepstake to be held @ Bishton Pools. Again it provided plenty of mixed bags and bites on the day with half those fishing having double figure weights.

Pegged on the far side behind the island Rich Pedlar fished corn and pellets short and long managing a mix of decent roach, skimmers plus a couple of small carp. Switching to an inside line in the last hour produced a better stamp of fish including crucians to give him 22-6. This was just enough to edge out Phil James fishing nearest the car park he caught consistently on pellet and corn until the last hour. Phil weighed in a very good mixed bag of 21-15 with lots of fish in the 4-8oz bracket.

Fishing on the dam end kim Jones had a very slow start before switching to caster up in the water on the waggler and pole again another lovely mixed bag topped up with a bonus 4lb carp in the last 15 minutes for 16-6.

Dave mason fishing next to Rich started well finding a couple of decent carp however a good size fish was lost in the last 10 minutes, but still managed a good weight of 15-15.

There was a 4-4 score draw in the lost big fish stakes between Gary (top angler) Wooliscroft and Terry Proctor.

Another good day out in enjoyable company.

NOTE Next match at Bishton Wed July 1st book with Terry ASAP as this match will be full.

Best Weights:
Rich Pedlar 22-06
Phil James 21-15

**NEWS UPDATE**

Will all members please note that fish are spawning on both the Bottom and Middle pools please take care when handling, and returning fish. As a result there will be no matches on either pool until further notice.

WORK PARTY big thank you to Andy Stokes, Phil James, Gary Wooliscroft, Chris Last, kim Jones, Dave Mason, Maurice Cooke and Terry Proctor for turning out in sweltering conditions on Sunday. Disappointingly take away Chris Last and the average was 70+ this does not bode well for future sustainability. If you enjoy fishing the waters please consider giving up a bit of time to support the club.

Wednesday Canal Sweepstake Result

There was another decent turnout for the latest Wednesday Club Sweepstake with 15 anglers lining the bank on the normally testing Trees Section at Shebdon. However, this proved not to be the case as some fine sport was enjoyed, with the middle section being the most prolific.

Leading the way was Whitchurch angler Nigel Lees on peg 6, fishing chopped worm and caster at 11 metres he located bream to 2-8-0 and skimmers for a very good weight of 17-06 👏.

Paul Walkden on 5 starting off on bread was quickly into good size skimmers however his bread line tailed off before he switched to worm to weigh 11-11 and 2nd place.

At the far end of section on 14 Steve Smith lost a big fish whilst plumbing the depth! Even so he also managed to locate a few skimmers for 6-1-0 after a good soaking.

Phil James on peg 1 had a nice mixed bag of small fish but without any netters for 5lb. Last of the pay outs went to Jim Dennison who had the best of the 4lb weights for 4-4-0.

Whilst Nigel had an excellent net the catch of the day went to Gordon and Chris Moss who pulled Steve Smith🤿 out of the canal after he fell in head first after tripping.

Well done lads 👏, another enjoyable day out in good company

**CLUB MATCH RECORD SMASHED**

Sundays match on the middle pool produced some great action and an outstanding performance from Rich Pedlar.

The match a lucky dip saw Rich have the 5th choice and was surprised to find 34 still available, fishing shallow against the island he managed a few F1's early before switching to worm over groundbait.
Finding good size carp to 11lb he set a new record catch for club waters weighing in 107-6-0 👏👏.

Dave Mason on 30 weighed in a very good 48-5-0 which on another day would have been a match winner. He landed 2 carp for 29lb including a lovely fish (pictured) of 17-3-0 which together with a few bits gave up runners up spot.

Terry Proctor fished a small feeder to entice a double which backed up with F1's and silvers gave him 3rd place with 24lb.

Best of the rest was Geoff Cantrell who had a good start on the lead before his swim died on him.
Another enjoyable day out and congratulations to Rich.

Has anyone spotted this:

Hi everyone.
A couple of weeks ago I was fishing the middle pool. I think I left my landing net head either at the pool or the car park. I've had a few health issues since so not been able to get back yet. Just a long shot to see if anyone has seen it.
Many thanks, Steve Cooke.

If you have, please let us know.
Thanks
