So I have had numerous messages today regarding the misfits boxing show last night, featuring Eddie Hall and Tommy Fury as the main event.
Well what can I say, I stopped watching several times over the course of the night as It really was just too embarrassing to watch, I know most of those taking part are not boxers, but it was to me a bit of a freak show. And maybe that's what they wanted it to be?
But what many of those bouts most definitely were not - is boxing; the noble art.
I watched part of the fight featuring someone called the Ibiza final boss? And another fight featuring someone called the hardest man in the uk 😬Who had a fight where they weren't allowed to hit in the headđŸ«© Now I respect anyone who steps in the ring and goes toe to toe with someone, but this was not an easy watch for a boxing purist, and Im not sure if I like seeing boxing go down this circus route which at times is on par with the WWE.

đŸ„ŠSparring should be an essential part of your self-defence training.

It teaches:

✔ Distance and timing
✔ Footwork and movement
✔ Reactions under pressure
✔ Defence and counter-attacks
✔ Composure when being hit
✔ Fitness and conditioning
✔ The ability to think under stress

You don't learn to swim by reading a book, and you don't learn to fight by only hitting pads.

Sparring bridges the gap between technique and application.

Train smart. Train safely. Pressure-test your skills.

"We buy things we don't need, with money we don't have, to impress people we don't like."

The flash car, designer clothes, expensive watch, and big house are all nice things to have. But in the end, they are just things.

If you or someone you love were diagnosed with a life-threatening illness tomorrow, how important would any of those possessions really seem?

A friend said to me recently - Health is wealth.

Yet so many of us don't fully appreciate our health until it is threatened. We abuse our bodies with alcohol, ci******es, drugs, poor diet, stress, and lack of exercise, often taking for granted the very thing that allows us to enjoy everything else.

The truth is that most of the things we spend our lives chasing have little value when compared to the things that truly matter.

Your health.

Your family.

Your loved ones.

The most important things in life don't come with a price tag because they are genuinely priceless.

Sometimes it's worth pausing and reminding ourselves what really matters🙏

So doom scrolling in a London hotel (as you do) I decided to seek out some reviews for my first book, and I found this. I initially had to read it again, and I realised they understood🙂:
"The book is an example of raw art working exactly as it should. It bypasses professional pretense to offer a transparent, unvarnished encounter with another person's soul. The disjointed nature reflects how human trauma actually works—it does not hit us in a straight line; it hits us in erratic, chaotic fragments. Scott wrote his truth exactly as he lived it, and that is precisely why it is triggers such deep, honest thoughts in our own minds".

**Don’t neglect body shots.**

I see it all the time in sparring—and I’ve seen it in real-life confrontations too—people become so focused on landing a head shot that they completely ignore one of the biggest and most vulnerable targets on the body.

A well-placed body shot delivered with timing and power can shut someone down fast. It can take away their breathing, break posture, kill their aggression, and create the opening you need to disengage or get to safety.

On the street, body shots are often there because people tend to expect attacks to the head and naturally bring their hands up high, leaving the body exposed.

From a self-defence point of view, body shots also carry another important advantage: you may be able to stop the threat without escalating to a knockout. A head hitting concrete can cause life-changing injury—or worse—and that can have devastating consequences for everyone involved.

Train your head shots—but don’t neglect the body. Sometimes the cleanest and smartest option isn’t the shot people see coming.

At 15 years of age, I was permanently expelled from school.

I was written off by my teachers, my headmaster, and pretty much everyone who supposedly had authority over me. They wanted me to be quiet, compliant, and fit into a system designed to churn us out as cannon fodder.

But I refused to accept their lies and their predictions. I knew who I really was. I had a fierce drive within me to be anything but another wretched soul, and I actively fought my corner.

Because I spoke out against what I saw as a broken system, I incurred the wrath of my form teacher. He wrote this infamous summary in my final school report:
"I have never found it so difficult to write anything good about a pupil and in this case, I failed miserably. I have not known him to do one positively good thing... This school is much improved by his absence."

When I first found that report again some 40 years later in an old shoebox, it rose a deep anger in me.

But in self-defense—and in life—you learn to take whatever is thrown at you and turn it into weapons-grade fuel. Today, I use those exact words as motivation whenever I need a kick-start.

I even chose to open my book, Lessons Learned Without a School, with that character assassination. Why? Because the people who try to bully, break, or write you off do not get to dictate how your story ends.
Self-defense isn't just about the physical mats; it's about the mental toughness to stand your ground when the world tries to push you down. Never let anyone else define your worth.

Fight your corner. Always.đŸ’Ș👊

If you’re looking for polished motivation, fake positivity, or someone selling you certainty about life, you’re in the wrong place.

This isn’t theory. It’s lived experience.

I’m Steve Scott. I’ve spent most of my life around the harder side of things — violence, ego, fear, drinking, and the fallout that comes when you don’t deal with yourself properly.

I was expelled from school at 15. After that I did what a lot of people do when they’re lost — I numbed things, I reacted, I made bad decisions, and I repeated the same cycles expecting different outcomes.

Nothing about that is impressive. It’s just real.

What changed things wasn’t a system or a breakthrough moment. It was slowly taking responsibility for what I was doing and refusing to keep lying to myself about it.

That path led me into martial arts, discipline, and eventually teaching at Real Combat System South West. Not as some kind of guru, but as someone who understands what happens when things go wrong — and what it takes to steady yourself again.

I’ve written a book called *Lessons Learned Without a School*. It’s not a guidebook for life. It’s a record of mistakes, patterns, and perspective earned the hard way.

Take what resonates. Leave what doesn’t.

I’m not here to fix you.

Just to be honest about what I’ve seen and lived.

A lot of people focus on the head shot — “head hunting” — and often overlook just how much damage can be done by striking the lower body, whether that’s a solid body shot or, like in this case, powerful kicks to the legs.

Personally, when I was boxing, it was always a hard body shot that I felt the most — often more than a shot to the head.

And during a Krav Maga grading I took a donkey kick that slipped off the pad and landed flush on my thigh leaving me on the floor and struggling to get back up
probably the most painful strike I’ve ever taken. It had me hobbling around for days afterwards 😬

Lower body strikes don’t always look dramatic, but they can shut movement down fast, drain energy, and completely change the outcome of a fight.

Don’t neglect them.
