⬛️🟨 THANK YOU ⬛️🟨

Hi guys missed us 👀

As another season draws to a close, we want to thank everyone who’s contributed to the Roundel throughout the year. The results and performances may not have matched in terms of points, but we finished on a high last month with a win over our neighbours (doing the double on them), and that’s something to be proud of.

To the players, both new and old: thank you for your commitment, for showing up week in, week out, and giving 100% every time you stepped onto the hallowed turf at the home of football. Without you, we wouldn’t even have had a season after last year.

To the management team: thank you for the time and effort you put in every week to keep the squad motivated and ready. A special mention to gaffer Kieran for stepping up last season, and to McGee for coming back for another stint and supporting Kie and Coatesy along the way.

There’ll be some personal thank-yous to follow, but for now, the Roundel lives on. One more year? Go on then…

And finally, a big thank you to our sponsors, TEPS, Coates Design and to everyone at Roundel for their continued support over the years, it never goes unnoticed.

Roundel 2️⃣ - 0️⃣ Myton

It’s been a while 👀

If you’re feeling tired and can’t sleep tonight, give this a read… because boy, it’s a long one.

That’s the Harold Wilson double completed for the season ✅ as we ran out worthy winners yesterday morning in the season finale.

Results haven’t been the greatest in recent weeks, so yesterday was a satisfying end to a tough season. Numbers were light, but everyone who was available was up for it. It’s always a good battle when we face our neighbours, Myton.

Coatesy turning up in the second half but thinking the ref had blown for half-time, when it was actually full-time, probably stands out most for him. To be fair, he was still in bed for the first half… literally.

Gaffer Kie nearly got a nosebleed playing his fifth game in a row in centre midfield. Much like Eddie Howe did with Joelinton, Kie’s found himself in a new position and looks right at home there. The gaffer can definitely handle himself in the middle.

The first half was fairly mediocre. Both sides had chances but nothing worth writing home about.

Half-time 0️⃣ - 0️⃣

We kicked into life in the second half. Uncle Long sorry, Daddy Long, was playing his second game back after becoming a father in late February to future Roundel number 9, Luca. Congratulations again to Long and his partner Sophie ♥️

Back to the football… Mujeeb playing the ball to Uncle Long who played a lovely cross-field pass to Marc, who lashed home a half-volley from 20 yards. The Myton keeper is probably still standing in the goal now, shell-shocked.
1-0.

That goal was the catalyst to go and grab a second and kill the game off, something we’ve struggled with this season. Yesterday, though, Uncle Long clearly wanted a good story to tell Luca at bedtime. Myton CM missed headed landed to Uncle Long who side footed volleyed it over-the-top through and shout to Mujeeb were perfect, allowing Mujeeb to do what he does best and slot it into the bottom corner.

Great goal. Great assist.

2-0.

Myton had a couple of half chances, but we saw the game and the season, out on a high with a clean sheet.

MOTM 🌟 – Jack Lacy

Hadn’t played a competitive game since October due to work schedules and postponements. Came back in, played 90 minutes at centre-half, and was absolutely rock solid alongside Jonno. The only thing he gave their strikers yesterday was earache, mostly about how he works offshore 3 on, 3 off, if you were wondering. Fantastic again. 🧱

That’s all for now, folks. A few more posts to come in the coming days and weeks. What a ride, another season done for the Roundel. I’ve lost count how many we’re on now.

Anyway, Alexia, play Sam Fender & Olivia Dean — Rein Me In.

⬛️🟡 UP NEXT ⬛️🟡

We’re back, baby.

Well… technically we were back last week, pretty sure we were the only Sunday league / non-league game in the country brave (or stupid) enough to be on in those snowy conditions.

Saturday night down Stockton, few beers to blow the cobwebs off, nothing daft, nice lie-in planned for Sunday…
BANG 💥
“Game on lads.”

A 7–2 defeat to South Bank wasn’t even the worst part of last Sunday. Think I’ve only just fully defrosted now 🥶.

Numbers were rock bottom but we still had chances to make it a bit more respectable, just wasn’t to be.

Fair play and good luck to South Bank for the rest of the season 👏 🤝

On to tomorrow as we make the trip to Penrith Road… ffs.
£100 says the grass is up to my knees 🌿. A few new faces, a couple returning 👀👀

Myton 3️⃣ - 4️⃣ Roundel

Vamos to the boys!

We travelled to the home of football this morning the Harold Wilson as we were the away side against the Myton, no nets to put up, come onnnnn.

With number very thin we knew we were going to be in a battle against a well organised side.

The opening goal came courtesy of Shannon Harker, who shook off his marker with a cheeky nipple-cripple before slipping free to head home a Ste Powell corner.

Myton equalised with a tidy first-time finish from a right-hand cross and managed to take the lead before the break.

At half-time we knew we were still well in the contest. We didn’t deserve to be behind, and we had 45 minutes to put things right.

Half time 2️⃣ - 1️⃣

It didn’t take long. Ryan Harker fed the ball into Mark Campbell, who unleashed a rocket from 30 yards to beat the Myton keeper and bring us level. 🚀

We then took the lead when player-manager playing in the orthodox role of centre mid, Kieran Campbell put in a huge tackle to stop a Myton break. The ball fell to Mujeeb Oguntowo, whose flick set up Mark Campbell for another long-range strike.🫡🫡

But Myton responded instantly from kick-off, and the game was back to 3–3 before we had time to settle.

We then found the winner when Marc Dunn pounced on a spilled cross from Tom Street, tapping home to make it 4-3 🕺🏻🕺🏻

Pandemonium followed among the three home fans on the sidelines.😵‍💫

Brilliant to finally get our first league win of the season, it’s been coming for the past few weeks, everyone grafted for each other today.

POTM ⭐ - could easily have gone to seven or eight different players, but today it’s awarded to Ryan Harker for his relentless midfield graft throughout the game.

🎅🏻 𝑪𝑯𝑹𝑰𝑺𝑻𝑴𝑨𝑺 𝑭𝑶𝑶𝑫 𝑩𝑨𝑵𝑲 𝑫𝑶𝑵𝑨𝑻𝑰𝑶𝑵 🎄

It’s that time of year again when we come together to support the Thornaby Food Bank with our annual Christmas donation.

Any contributions — big or small — will be greatly appreciated and will go a long way in helping those who need it most this festive season.

As a team, it’s the least we can do to make a difference.

We’re aiming to drop off all donations at the beginning of December.

Thornaby Roundel 4️⃣ - 4️⃣ Penny Black Football Club

After a week off, we returned home with great numbers and high spirits. Before kick-off, we paused for a minute’s silence - lest we forget. 🌹

Morri stepped up between the sticks this morning, donning the gloves 🧤 the postman.

We started brightly and on the front foot. Ola went close early, firing just over the bar. The pressure was building, and it soon told, Lew nodded Cam’s corner back across goal and Dyl rose highest to head home. 1-0.

Almost immediately, Penny hit back with a tidy move and finish. Morri got a hand to it but couldn’t keep it out. 1-1.
That goal gave Penny some momentum, and they grew into the game. A sharp finish from Billy soon put them ahead. 2-1.

Half-time.

We came out for the second half just as we started the first, on the front foot. Great work from Dyl and Cam saw the ball fall to Ola, whose shot nutmegged the keeper and found the net. 2-2.

But Penny weren’t done. A well-struck free-kick restored their lead. 3-2.

Moments later, a shot from 30 yards extended it further. 4-2.

Time to dig in. We stopped feeling sorry for ourselves and got back to playing our football. Cam linked up beautifully with Uncle Long, who was brought down in the box, clear penalty. Up stepped Cam, who made no mistake. 4-3. Game onnnnn.

That goal was the spark we needed. We started moving the ball with confidence again. Jonno pushed forward from right-back, causing all sorts of problems. After good work from Cory, the ball fell to Jonno on the edge of the area and wow, he smashed it first time into the toppest of top bins!

Cue shouts of “Jonno Van De Ven!” from the sideline. 4-4.

It was end-to-end stuff from there, both sides pushing for a winner, but in the end a point apiece felt fair.

Fantastic character from the lads, coming back from 4-2 down showed the fight and spirit we’re all about. 💪

An immense shift, putting his body on the line, making crucial last-ditch tackles, never stopped running, and played a huge part in the comeback by winning the penalty. Top performance.

We welcome South Bank Utd FC to the home of football this Sunday.

After a tough result last weekend, the lads will be looking to bounce back with a strong performance. It won’t be easy against a quality side in South Bank, so we’ll need to be at our best to get the result we want.
