One thing I’ve added more of into my training as I’ve got older is zone 2 cardio.
Years ago, I mainly focused on weights and viewed cardio mostly as a tool for fat loss.
Now I see conditioning and cardiovascular health very differently.
Zone 2 cardio is low-to-moderate intensity work where you can still hold a conversation while training.

For me, it’s become an important part of staying:
fit
healthy
conditioned
recovered
able to perform well long-term
I currently include 2 zone 2 sessions per week alongside my strength training.

The benefits go far beyond just burning calories.
It helps improve:
cardiovascular health
endurance
recovery capacity
work capacity
overall fitness

It also helps balance out the stress of heavy weight training.
One thing I’ve learned over time is that being “gym fit” and being genuinely fit are not always the same thing.
I still prioritise strength training, but I also want:
good energy levels
a healthy heart
decent conditioning
longevity

Especially as you get older, training should support your long-term health, not just aesthetics.
That’s why I believe combining strength work with sensible conditioning is such an effective approach.
I'm currently taking on a limited number of online coaching clients. DM me "COACHING" for details.
