Well! What an event we had yesterday.
There was lots to celebrate and unpack from yesterday - June 20th

First of all - what a glorious, sunny morning we had - specially ordered by the parkrun weather fairies for our celebratory parkrun.

Before I go into some fun facts about our milestone Queen, here are some other titbits from yesterday.

Last, but not least -
Some stats surrounding our one-time Event Director, Katherine Cole:

Number of parkruns 5️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ πŸŽ‰

Volunteered on 379 occasions in total
*216 at Burnage
*60 of these were in 2024 - including stints at Wilmslow Junior parkrun

95 different 5k locations that she has ran, walked or jogged.

Saturday was Katherine's 54th time doing the First Timers Welcome

Has been Run Director 92 times for Burnage.

Katherine's 153rd occasion of participation equals that of her friend Peter Stanley.

Katherine was also instrumental in getting both myself and Lynsey to be onboard with Run Directing during her 6 and a bit year tenure as Event Director for Burnage.

Just a note about our other unusual feature to yesterday - the presence of one of 10 touring boomerang mascots that are currently travelling the world - visiting parkruns, and creating connections wherever they visit. I will post a link to the website that gives more context about their journeys. However, if you want to follow B12 'Ozzy' whilst the πŸͺƒ is still in the North West region, then you can see the boomerang next at Kingsway parkrun in Urmston on June 27th.

A big thank you to all of our volunteers from yesterday. It was a great team effort, and we hope that everyone who was there on the day - whether you ran, walked, jogged, volunteered or spectated, enjoyed the occasion as much as Lynsey and I did.

A big thank you also goes to our special guest photographer - Jan Christoph-Telford. Jan took something close to 1,000 photos yesterday, and as you can imagine, it takes time to sort through and present them. So we'll do a different post when those come in.

πŸŽ‰Many thanks to everyone who will be volunteering with us tomorrow.😎

We have an extremely healthy roster, and along with the celebrations for Katherine Cole's 500th, we also have a couple of other things to take note of.
One way or another, June 20th will be slightly different!πŸͺƒπŸ“Έ

//🦺 / Who wants to volun-cheer for Katherine's 5️⃣0️⃣0️⃣?/// 🦺//

This week marks the 500th parkrun for a stalwart who helped to keep parkrun at Burnage going in the early days - eventually taking over as Event Director - doing the role from 2012 - 2018.

For us to go ahead on Saturday (20th), we still could do with a few more people to help out as marshals.

In fact, the more the merrier!

It would be fab for Katherine to have lots of familiar faces on the course, as she does her milestone parkrun.

Also, if anyone can help out with any of the following:

- Barcode Scanning

- Funnel Managing

- Post Event Close-down

Please get in touch if you can help in any way.

You too can tap into those feel good vibes by helping us out at Burnage parkrun on Saturday.

We are looking for Timekeepers, Marshals (including 2 for the car park entrance), Barcode Scanners and a Funnel Manager.

It will make everyone's day - being part of the next million events for parkrun.
Please get in touch is you can help out this Saturday (or any future roster gap

Burnage parkrun
Event number 633

This week 263 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 76 were first timers and 21 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 28 different clubs took part.

It was an absolute scorcher today! Well done to everyone that completed the course in the heat and HUGE THANKS to all of this week's volunteers - our event couldn't go ahead without you! We had 2 volunteers taking on their first ever roles this week and 6 volunteers taking on roles they haven't done before. All of today's volunteers were absolutely amazing. A special mention for our junior tailwalker Ruby, who achieved her 10th volunteering milestone today. Also, John Kennedy, Burnage regular and one of today's carpark marshals, who achieved his 25th volunteering milestone. Congratulations and thank you to both Ruby and John!

A warm parkrun welcome to the 10 people that completed their very first parkruns today: Amber, Imran, Hannah, Walter, Simon, Jon, Gary, Eva, Julia and Stas. We hope you enjoyed your time with us today and we look forward to welcoming you back again soon!

Congratulations to Anna Coleman, who completed her 10th parkrun today! Anna is one of our regular DofEs, having notched up an impressive 72 volunteers, so it's great to see her now achieving recognition for completing the course.

Other milestones today were achieved by Daniel Jameson, who completed his 50th parkrun and Hanna Burgess and Matthew Beaumont, who both completed their 100th parkruns. We'd also like to give a special arbitrary mention to Samantha Onslow who completed her 300th parkrun today. Congratulations and well done to you all!

If you'd like to give volunteering a go, please email [email protected]
