Cheshire Fly Fishing

Cheshire Fly Fishing Welcome to Cheshire Fly Fishing. The company is owned and run by Ian Griffin. What We Do

Here at Cheshire Fly Fishing we have something for everyone.

Ian is a member of the Game Angling Instructors Association or GAIA for short and holds the Game Angling Instructors Certificate. Ian has had a huge passion for fishing for as long as he can remember, and whenever he has any spare time there is only one thing you will find him doing, fishing! Ian progressed into the world of fly fishing some 35 years ago and has never looked back. Fly fishing has

taken Ian to some of the most beautiful places in the world including the lakes & rivers of Northwest England, Scotland, Cornwall, New Zealand and the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Fly fishing has given Ian so much pleasure that he wanted to give back to the sport that has given him so much. Ian set out on a new adventure to gain the skills and qualifications needed to become an instructor. After seeking tuition and furthering his skill Ian now holds a Game Angling Instructors Certificate in Single Handed Casting. Ian is fully insured and is a qualified first aider and also has an enhanced CRB check. Whether you are a complete beginner or someone that has been fly fishing for years and just need a little bit of tuition to help perfect your cast.. We have a number of programs of tuition that we hope will enable you to:

Cast further and more accurately
Stop tangles and knots
Cast to rising fish quickly
Learn which flies to use and when
Learn how to haul to increase distance
But mostly catch more and just enjoy your day

For the beginner we will guide you through the equipment, set up, fly selection & teach you the essential casting skills. For the more experienced angler we will iron out the bad habits that we all develop over the years. Improving your casting skills. You will learn new casts such as the presentation casts, single or double haul & speys.

A half day session on Friday at Danebridge fisheries taking Peter and Marcus through the basic introduction to fly fishing.
A few fish moving to dries but not fully committed so it was frustrating for them but both realised that this can happen and were happy to have got the basics of the casts to give them enough to go out and give it a go themselves.

Out on the Ribble on Saturday with Mat in search of some more brownies, again we weren't disappointed numerous coming to both nets and plenty getting off. The fish weren't rising as much this week but still taking the odd trickle of flies that were coming off.
Bonus as we ate lunch a pair of young deer ran right in front of us and crossed the river, nature at its best.

Good session this afternoon at Danebridge fisheries with John who is new to fly fishing. After going through the roll cast and then Overhead and covering various wind directions he soon got the hang of things and it wasn't long before he was into a feisty Rainbow, sadly the hook pulled just before the net.
Plentiful fish moving and being caught, dry flies seem to be today's option.
If you've got a few hours to spare it's we'll worth a visit.

Couple of hours over Danebridge fisheries today giving John a beginners lesson. He soon mastered the Roll and Overhead casts as well as dealing the varying wind directions.
Plenty of fish moving so well worth a trip there.

Day on the river yesterday with Mat, great company. Fish were tricky, it took us a while to work out what pattern was working despite fish clearly happy to take natural yellow mays, clearly our patterns weren't quite as good. Eventually we gave them something that they would take although we hooked more than we brought to the net but still a nice session in good company. Browns trout, grayling and even the odd chubb were the catches off the day.

Busy this week with a mixture of lessons, started with a Double Handed session on Monday prepping Alex for his upcoming trip to Glencalvie beat on the River Carron.
Then it was onto husband & wife single handed session at showing Keith some new casts to add to his already accomplished set, & introducing his wife Ashley to this great sport with some beginners casts.
Back at Danebridge today with Garry for a single handed session, it couldn't have been a worse day, varying wind directions squally weather with some serious rain and hail stones thrown in but despite it all we managed to cover a lot of casts that he will need.
What was strange despite the very changeable weather as soon as the down pours had nearly finished the tout were popping up everywhere.
If you've not been over its well worth a visit with plenty of fish moving.
