Two years ago, the West Highland Way was completely unknown to me.
Fast forward to today, and I’ve just completed my own West Highland Way Triple Crown. 👑👑👑🏃🏻♂️
The journey started when I signed up for the Highland Fling Race in 2025 and began recceing sections of the trail.
Along the way, I was inspired and encouraged by two great guys and runners, Stevie McKenna Stevie McKenna and Kev Craig Kev Craig , who introduced me to other parts of this incredible route and helped spark a challenge that would become much bigger than I ever imagined.
For 2026, I set myself the goal of completing three races along Scotland’s most famous trail in the same calendar year.
✅ Devil o’ the Highlands Race
✅ West Highland Way Challenge Race
✅ Highland Fling Race
The adventure began with a glorious sunny day at the Devil O the Highlands Footrace in late April, followed by the full 97-mile West Highland Way Challenge Race on a brutally wet weekend in May. That left one final test: the Highland Fling Race.
This weekend, on a warm and humid late August day, with what felt like a trillion midges doing their best to slow me down (and a fair few ending up as accidental nutrition along the way! 🤣), I made my way to Tyndrum and crossed the finish line of my third and final race.
In total, that’s 197 race miles on the West Highland Way this year.
More than the miles, this challenge has been about discovering a trail I knew nothing about just two years ago, pushing my limits, experiencing some of Scotland’s most spectacular scenery, and sharing the journey with an amazing running community. I am also so proud that my endless talk about the WHW inspired my eldest son to walk the WHW in July along with 3 friends for charity.
A huge thank you to everyone who offered support, encouragement, advice, and motivation along the way. Every message, chat, and cheer helped more than you know.
What a journey. 💙🏴
