Last week Jonathan and Rob travelled to Italy to take part once again in the Fencing Forge - Piancavallo Fencing Academy. As always they both had a fantastic time working with a huge number of amazing coaches and fencers. With six hours of training a day it was an intense week of bouting, lessons, physical preparation and match analysis.

On Wednesday Jonathan and his Italian teammate Davide both put in a solid effort and managed to secure victory in the doubles competition - and yes they did pair up the tallest cadet with the shortest junior 😆. Davide would go on to win the individual competition on Friday as well, proving size doesn't matter!

While the weather wasn't quite as nice as last year (lucky we're an indoor sport!) there was still the opportunity for a spot of hill walking as well.

Finally, the week had an amazing end with the news that Jonathan has been selected for the GBR cadet squad travelling to Budapest in October! A fantastic opportunity for his first year as a Cadet, congratulations Jonathan!

Many thanks again to Fencing Forge for a great week, and we're already looking forward to next years camp 😄

From starting outdoors in 2021 until now it has been a fantastic five years so far. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has contributed. It has really flown by!

On Saturday the 1st of August we will be having a celebration at the club after our regular Saturday afternoon session. It would be great to see any of our friends who would like to come along.

Bring your kit, (and something to throw on the BBQ) have a fence and join in with our club birthday party!

We hope to see you all there 😁

Well done to all the young fencers who competed at the Scottish Secondary schools championships on the 21st/22nd. It was wonderful to have so many members there and to see them all show great club spirit supporting one another.

Over the same weekend some of our Veteran members were competing at the Veteran nationals in Bedford - Andrew in the Epee, Silvia in the Sabre and Roz putting in a great effort and competing in all three weapons, bring home the gold medal for Sabre as well as getting a great 8th in the epee!

Last weekend Jonathan finished his U14 season by representing GBR at the EFC U14 fencing festival in Cividale de Friule in 37 degree heat! A fantastic final U14 experience before he moves up to Cadets for the coming season.

The Vets were also back in action this time at the Veteran 4 Nations team event. Well done to Silvia (Sabre), Sheila(Foil) and Roz (Sabre, and squeezed in an Epee match as well) who all contributed to the Scottish team coming Second overall.

Next week sees the start of the Fencing Forge Epee camp in Edinburgh - there are still some spaces available so sign up quick! https://scherma.eu/en/eventi/edinburgh-daily-camp-2026

Very well done to all our club members who attended the inaugural Dundee open over the weekend! The combined efforts of the 17 people who made it along were enough to secure the the top club award 😁

On the podium front, Saturday saw Rob and Jonathan taking gold and silver in the mens Epee, with Elki adding a silver in womens Sabre and Sam winning the secondary epee. Top result on Sunday went to Chloe who won the womens foil.

A big thanks to the organisers who went to the effort of starting a new event. We all had a great time and are looking forward to the next one.
