Stewkley Recreation Ground Sports Pavilion

OK so parking is not quite as bad as this near the recreation ground on a Saturday morning but it can be very challenging, and sometimes borderline dangerous. It is great that there is so much involvement in our junior sports teams...but the carpark at the pavilion has very limited capacity.

We are politely asking all home team players and supporters to kindly park in the school car park which will be opened specifically for your use.

We thank you all in advance for your cooperation and don't forget the footpath across the rec is a perfect way to walk from the school to the football pitches!!

Imagine it will be a busy one in the pavilion for the football this evening.
We have to be careful with our numbers, so it will be members only and priority given to those who have been in to watch previous games.

Morning Stewkley
The large tree on the Rec, nearest to the Pavilion, has a hole in the trunk and several dead branches, indicating a good level of disease and rot. Several professional tree surgeons have 'condemned' it, and there's also been a few dead branches falling over the past months. Sadly there is no option but to now fell the tree due to public risk and insurance factors, and so this will be actioned this Friday 28 June. We obviously dont want to lose it, but really have no option now due to our obligations - hopefully everyone understands the position.

The Rec Committee just wanted to make people aware that essential maintenance will be carried out in the coming weeks. We will be clearing ditches to improve drainage on our ever soggy pitches and recreation areas (thank you British weather!). In order to clear the ditches some hedge cutting will need to take place. We understand that hedges, ideally, need to be trimmed after August and before March. However, we wanted to reassure any potential worried onlookers that we are walking the hedge line in advance to check for nests and animals. We hope this gives stewkley residents peace of mind that time and care has been given to this job.

Construction of a new path from the Pavilion across to the Scout Hut, outside gym and play area will start Monday 6 November. The route will go from the Pavilion, along the hedge line, and then straight across to the Scout Hut. It will also extend the Church path straight across to the gym equipment and play area. Everyone is asked to avoid all working areas due to usual safety concerns. There will be some disruption and unavoidable ground disturbance, and the Rec apologises in advance for any inconvenience. Works are anticipated to finish by end November – thank you for your understanding.
