There has been a lot of interest in the future of Ardeer recently, and we wanted to share a clear update with the community about the changes we are planning to make for the new season. The way we operate the golf course is changing, but the golf club itself remains very much in place. Going forward, the operation of the golf course will be managed by a newly created not‑for‑profit organisation run by George Taggart (GT groundcare ltd). Ardeer Golf Club will continue to run all golfing activity for our members, including competitions, handicaps, clubhouse operations, events and the wider social side of the club.
This approach simply means that the golf course and the golf club will operate as two separate but closely linked bodies, working together for the long‑term benefit of golfers and the wider community. This change continues the not‑for‑profit approach the club already follows, with the operation of the golf course moving under a dedicated not‑for‑profit structure within the reshaped agreement. Transferring the day‑to‑day running and full maintenance of the course to this new organisation removes a significant financial pressure from the club, and importantly, allows the investment required to bring the course up to the standard everyone wants to see. The reality is that the club on its own cannot sustain the level of investment needed, and this new structure offers a positive and sustainable way forward. This change is about improving the course, securing our future and giving players a better experience — not about changing who we are as a club.
Ardeer has always been a community‑focused club, welcoming golfers of all ages and abilities and offering opportunities to play, compete and be part of a supportive local environment. By strengthening the way the course is operated, this proposal allows us to build on that tradition and expand it further. A better‑maintained course, combined with a clear and sustainable operating model, gives us the chance to attract more golfers from across the area, bring new people into the game, and ensure Ardeer remains a place where the community can enjoy affordable, accessible golf. This structure allows us to protect what makes Ardeer special while creating the conditions for more people to discover and enjoy everything the club and course have to offer.
It is also important to make clear that Ardeer Golf Club has not been sold. The club, its history, its identity and its community remain exactly where they have always been. What we are doing is restructuring how the golf course is operated so that we can protect the long‑term future of golf at Ardeer and give ourselves the best chance to rebuild and grow.
The proposal is now in the final stages of legal checks and discussions with the relevant bodies. Once these final steps are complete, we will publish full details for both club members and anyone interested in playing golf at Ardeer in the season ahead. We are looking forward to sharing the final arrangements with you soon and welcoming as many of you as possible onto the course this year.
