Today - Thursday 20 August - we played the last game of our annual four match series against our long-standing friends of Islip B.C.
it was a pleasure to play under very much cooler conditions than those which we have endured for the past couple of months.
We were pleased to finish the series with a win. Overall S.B.C. finished as victors with a score of 268 - 187, meaning that we retain the highly valued Concrete Lady trophy.

......and our good run of form continues. Just the one defeat in July!We are clearly doing something right at SBC.

We were disappointed to lose narrowly to local Rushden Town Bowls Club at our home match in June.
The return away fixture was played on the afternoon of Saturday 25 July.
We thoroughly enjoyed the excellent Rushden playing surface and the company of our friendly hosts. The match was played in perfect (not too hot) weather too.
RTBC has 10 times the membership of our own club, and it was therefore especially gratifying that on this latest occasion, the narrow victory was in favour of Stanwick.

On the evening of 21 July we were delighted to welcome members of Stanwick W.I., together with friends and family to our club for a fun bowling session.

Most attendees had never tried lawn bowls before, but all showed rapid improvement in technique and accuracy after their first few practice shots.

The evening session developed into a friendly competition, with everyone trying hard not to reveal their competitive nature.

With the bowling over, we adjourned to our club house for tea, biscuits and chat.

We thoroughly enjoyed hosting the group and welcome enquiries from other village organisations who may be interested in a similar session. We will do what we can to accommodate you.

We are incredibly grateful to have received a significant grant from Sport England and the National Lottery. This funding has allowed us to ⁠install an automated irrigation system, which will help us to preserve our bowling green for future generations.

We passionately believe in the importance of sport and physical activity and this generous grant will ensure that the playing surface at our club will be maintained to a high standard, benefitting both Stanwick players and the wider bowling community.

We would also like to say thank you to everyone who plays the National Lottery and make such awards possible.

We endured a stressful couple of hours at our Club on Wednesday morning. In order to complete a job we needed to turn a below ground valve located about 2 feet down at the bottom of a narrow pipe. We could see however, that a hedgehog had fallen down the pipe and was trapped around the valve. Removing it would be extremely difficult. Recalling a Fb post I had seen recently, I called Hoggieworts (07774 474826) and fortunately the call was taken by the excellent Val who offered advice on its removal.
A very tricky exercise resulted in success, however with the hedgehog removed, it was now apparent that a further two baby hedgehogs were even more intricately trapped below the pipework to which the valve was attached. With effort, first one, then the other were extricated. All were thankfully alive.
Val rang back to say that she was on her way, and arrived at the Club a short while later.
Having given them a check over and removing a couple of ticks, we were asked to water and feed the three guys for the rest of the day (Val supplied suitable kitten food) before returning them to the Club grounds later that evening. We were happy to oblige and extremely grateful to Val for her rapid response and guidance.
The three hedgehogs were released as agreed and on checking a few minutes later they had all made their way into the undergrowth.
Even better news – Val has promised to come back for a game of Bowls!

We currently have improvement work going on at the Club, but we are still able to get on the green.
The pictures show a triples match played as part of our annual Club championships.

Not too sure what's going right, but we have done pretty well in our outdoor matches so far this season.
