*New 90 min Yin Yoga class πŸ’š

Huge thanks to .somers.3 & .chipperfield for booking onto my 1st, new Yin Yoga class added to the Ayatana schedule πŸ™πŸ»

I'm not newly trained to Yin, I've actually been qualified for just over 3 years & love the practice, but the timing to add a regular class to the studio has never been right.....until now!! Attending my wonderful teacher Jac's retreat in Bali in April re sparked my love for it, so I created some space & have taken the chance!

Yin Yoga embodies TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), drawing deeply on the meridian lines, or the Qi (life force energy) that moves through & connects our emotions, organs & seasons.

I took these 2 lovely students through a Late Spring practice today. In Yin, this is associated by the Earth element, represented through the Spleen & Stomach meridians.

The Stomach meridian moves down the front of the body & legs, the Spleen meridian travels primarily along the inner legs.

The 'shapes' are held for longer, heavily supported with props & are guided by breath - Ujjayi breath which allows the body to fully relinquish into the support of the earth beneath you.

Rather than focusing on the 'Yang' of muscle activation, Yin Yoga targets the deeper connective tissues, the tendons, ligaments & fascia, allowing their fibrous like state liquify & find more fluidity. This leads to better mobility & exploring the parasympathetic state, our rest & digest over the sympathetic.

Whether it's Yin or Yang, isn't Yoga just magic!!! ✨

As from next week, this class will be held on Tuesdays @ 11am - 12.30pm

Β£16pp drop in or 4 for Β£60

I place these cards at the end of everyone's mat at the start of my larger classes. I set them down as shown on blue, 'Yes' to adjustments please & explain that on the other side they're red for 'No' adjustments today thank you.

No questions asked. No explanations need to be given. Simply to choose what they prefer.

I attended a class as a student last week & I genuinely don't mind what is being taught. There are elements to a Yoga class that I prefer over others, but to be honest, it's an opportunity to listen & enjoy!!

What I notice more is what isn't done, especially when it's the fundamentals.

The teacher didn't say hello, ask my name, or introduce herself. If there was anything that she needed to be aware of (there was no h&s form completed beforehand) but the biggest one was that she adjusted me without asking consent.

I actually like adjustments, but it really made me think about how I would feel if I didn't?? Someone putting their hands on me if I didn't like being touched?? She had never met me before & knew nothing of my history.

What are your thoughts??

Classes start again tomorrow.....don't forget to book on!!! πŸ§˜πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ§˜πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

My ducks have never been in a row & I've never ran a tight ship!

I'm unorganised, forgetful (peri-meno kicks my arse some days with that) & often late....
But I'm passionate, hard working, fiercely loyal & love with my whole heart β™₯️

I used to feel like I was a bit chaotic. Now I love & appreciate that I just live fully in the present moment. It's the only place that life truly exists ✨

No filter needed on this one πŸŒŠπŸ§˜πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ›–

Last day of our Cornish holiday & caught a class this morning with my lovely who moved to Newquay from Stortford 2 weeks ago!!!

It's important as a teacher to go to other teachers classes. This one had a strong focus on alignment, (teacher is an Osteopath) & gentle....however there was a 10 breath Utkatasana...we all know a 2 breath 'Chair Pose' feels like 10, so 10 feels like 20!

We've had the most fantastic week with the weather & our accommodation, The Headland Hotel has lived up to every expectation 🀍

I'm back next week lovely Yogis, with 2 NEW classes on the schedule!!

πŸ§˜πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ§˜πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ Who is Yoga for??

Answer....everyone!!! 🀍

This lovely bunch attended my 'All Abilities' 9.30am class this morning at Ugley Village Hall

I'll be honest, I don't like labelling classes with ability level because what does that even mean??? Who I would deem to be an advanced practitioner is probably not what you expect & has absolutely nothing at all to do with flexibility, whether you can touch your toes or do a deep backbend.....& I mean nothing....

But I do because going to a class can be intimidating & this isn't an hour of a dynamic, strong practice, so the wording needs to reflect that.

My 'All Abilities' classes do have some heat but what one student finds physically hard, to another can feel easy. Our anatomy plays a huge role in what our physical bodies will allow us to do but the physical postures or the asana, are only one limb of our Yoga practice.

Men, women, a range of ages, this is what I love about the community that I have created & continue to grow 🀍

There is no hierarchy to the versions you take. Props are used to open up, to expand, to get your prana, your energy flowing freely. There's no expectation from me, I generally ask you to leave your expectations of yourself at the door & come in with an open mind & heart β™₯️

If you follow me & haven't been to a class before, I'm your incense burning, mantra chanting, Sanskrit teaching, long Savasana with massage kind of teacher....

I'm not for everyone, I don't want to be!! But if what I've said sounds like a bit of you, come along 😊
