If I’d have known this sooner, I’d have felt so much less alone and realised I was normal
I always thought there was something wrong with me
Your cycle aside, understanding your body, having the correct knowledge and looking after them can positively impact your mental health regardless.
But we as females are complex so having that knowledge is even more vital 🔐👇🏼
In the second half of our cycle, especially as we get closer to the menstrual phase, our hormone levels drop to their lowest after a after a big peak and can affect the serotonin (feel good) hormones in our brain.
This can lead to us feeling more down, emotional and have a generally lower in mood.
On top of this, we hold onto to more water retention in this phase, so this can lead us to feel ‘puffy’ and view our bodies differently. We sometimes feel like we aren’t making progress due to this and can feel frustrated, leading to a negative spiral of self-talk in our minds
Obviously there’s not a lot we can do to change our hormones - BUT we can make them as balanced as possible by looking after our bodies throughout the month through nutrition, movement and rest to help us
What you do in each phase affects the next so making sure to nourish your body with a variety of foods as well as moving in a way that makes you feel good throughout the month, and that includes getting enough rest
When you start taking care of yourself, it positively impacts your cycle, it also positively impacts your mental health and therefore has a positive affect on you day to day life and translates to all other aspects to improve and enhance the quality of your life
Work with your body and it will repay you by working with you so you can feel your best from the inside out ✨
