Lincs Junior Golf Academy

Lincs Junior Golf Academy PGA Golf Coach
US Kids Golf Master Top 50 Coach 2024
LPGA Girls Golf Coach & Elite Committee Member
Junior Lead at Burghley Park GC

Run by Darren Game, PGA Professional at Bourne Golf Centre. The Academy is for children wanting to learn to play golf and becoming the best they can in school and in life. We take golf out to the local schools and into the community, allowing children to experience the fun of playing golf. Games challenge the children to learn golfing skills effectively before being invited to the golf club. Parents and members of staff can also watch and appreciate the benefits of playing golf to the developing child. The pathway continues at Burghley Park Golf Club in Stamford, Lincolnshire where they can further develop their golfing skills with traditional equipment in our weekly coaching programme. These are in age-specific groups (boys and girls welcome) and take children through eight levels, both on the practise area and on the golf course. Right from the off, we actively encourage playing on the golf course - let's face, golf is all about playing right? Pin badges are awarded for their successes on the golf course as they move through the eight levels (or hole lengths) and certificates/badges are plentiful throughout their journey with us. Junior membership at the club soon follows along with hopefully a life-long passion for the game as well as becoming a champion athlete and individual in the process.

WOW, now where has that number of years gone!! I awake this morning ready for a holiday golf camp which is with what it all started six years ago.

I can remember like it was yesterday. Yes we want you to come and reestablish our junior. section and you are starting with the holiday camps you mentioned in two days time!!

That was with five junior members, now there are over 120 with another 70 odd on the coaching programme and 100 girls dabbling in golf through the LPGA Girls Golf Programme.

I”m so grateful for being given this opportunity, when if you remember six years ago, we had just come out of the first Covid lockdown and my business was in shatters with no means of income. Thank you to all Burghley Park Golf Club and the team for offering me the opportunity to flourish as me@

And it was a great life lesson learned as well, the opportunities are there if you look and the art is to know one and have teh bravery to seize it and make it your own.

A special mention. Thank you Jamie Edwards for guidance through thick and thin and showing me how to believe in myself.

Boys will be boys

Some fun on the driving range this afternoon. Golf is more than a game, it creates opportunities to make friendships.

And ultimately, it’s these friendships that keeps boys and girls in the game to potentially become future stars of the game.

Golf and even the competitive side should be kept fun and let the children grow into the game by having them want to go golfing to meet up with friends and not just chase the trophies all the time. Let them be kids I guess

Today we introduced a new putting activity with increased intensity, as it was played as a team game. We named it Wheel of Fortune.

The rules are straightforward: five players, each with a ball at separate locations, aim for a single hole. Each player takes a turn to putt. If anyone misses, the sequence restarts with player one.

This activity became much more than a golf competition. It encouraged teamwork, perseverance, and mutual appreciation. Watching both teams complete the challenge and grow as team players, supporters, leaders and coaches was truly rewarding.
