Pride in Place funding boost for 12 community projects
Twelve groups across Tameside are celebrating after securing funding to improve their local neighbourhoods.
Tameside Council has awarded money from its Pride in Place Impact Fund, part of a £1.5 million programme, in the second round of applications.
Projects had to show how they would deliver lasting improvements for communities, public spaces and local high streets, helping to revitalise town centres by March 2027.
Funding had already been committed this year to projects including Eco Streets, Hyde Gridiron, Dukinfield Town Hall public realm plans and new play equipment.
Applications have been received from community groups from across the borough, ensuring a strong spread of projects.
All applications were assessed against agreed criteria, including alignment to strategic priorities and community benefits.
The final round is now open until 31 July, with promotion of the opportunity to submit proposals via Community Forums having taken place across the borough.
The following schemes have been awarded funding in round two:
Ridgehill Community Medical Centre (Stalybridge) – transforming a former shop unit into a permanent GP surgery, with potential to expand into a wider community health hub.
Denton West Cricket Club – installing a lift as part of ongoing clubhouse improvements to provide full disabled access to first-floor changing rooms.
Dane Bank Green Space Charity – creating a small, accessible outdoor theatre and performance space for at least 30 people, supported by a programme of community events.
Dane Bank access road improvements – repairing a key access route used by several community organisations, helping them continue operating safely.
Project Phoenix 2 (7th Stalybridge Scouts) – improvements to the scout hut to improve accessibility, insulation and energy efficiency, and widening its use for the community.
Haughton Green improvements – upgrading public spaces and playing fields, including better lighting, resurfaced paths, improved signage, new street furniture and tree planting.
Stalybridge Archery Club – improving the outdoor range, alongside ecological and biodiversity work on the site.
Camp Connectivity Improvement Scheme (3rd Gee Cross Scouts) – creating a safe, permanent access route between the scout hut and camping area.
Hyde Little Theatre – refurbishing the venue with electrical upgrades, LED lighting, new rehearsal and changing spaces, and structural improvements.
Tameside Digital Community – developing a dedicated digital hub to improve access to technology and deliver training for residents.
Newton Cricket Club – upgrading bathroom facilities, including the addition of accessible provision.
The Vale – creating a new visual arts studio and improving outdoor space at the multi-use arts venue.
Tameside Council Executive Leader, Councillor Eleanor Wills said: “This is a really exciting time for Tameside with the Pride in Place Impact Fund bringing so many benefits to our communities. The range of projects applying for funding to much-loved places and spaces right across the borough will make a huge difference to those that use them.
“I encourage everyone to think about where else this funding could help across all our towns, whether community spaces, public buildings or town centres, and apply in this final round of applications.”
